Our skin cells have their own internal clock in addition to the brain’s master clock!

The skin’s circadian rhythm affects nearly all of it’s functions (water loss, oil production, skin cell division). By knowing and understanding the skin peak times we can benefit by using certain treatment for the best results!

During the day our fights against the -radicals and external environment such as temperature extremes, microbes and radiation.
Using an serum such as C and (minimum factor 30) at the morning not only will protect the skin by reducing and counteracting free radical production but also will reduce pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles (win win)!

Oil production peaks early afternoon (yep that’s why your make-up slips by lunch time!). This is the time to be reaching for your blotting paper or your mineral mattifying powder!

During the night is when most key changes are happening...

Firstly the skin loses more water compare to the daytime. That’s why , night cream or a facial oil is essential especially for those with normal/dry skin.

The skin barrier is more permeable at night whilst we sleep, now it’s time to think about targeting such as spot treatment and BHAs for the stubborn spots, excess oiliness and sebum production. Or brightening agents for pigmentation and retinoids for anti-aging and acne.

Lastly our skin cells are busy dividing at night, if you want to improve your skin tone and slow down ageing this when you need to add and into your skincare regime, which promote skin cell renewal and turnover. -Add yes you can start using retinol from your mid 20s!

Sunday vibes

With London in tier 4 there isn’t much to do on the first Sunday of the year.

Time for coffee and catching up with the latest skincare trends.

As an aesthetician and I must say there are some interesting products out there - BUT also some that might do more harm than good.

The Uk beauty market is worth more than £17 billion,a figure that is rising rapidly due to the ever- increasing amount of money we are willing to spend on products and treatments. The desire to a have a flawless, youthful skin is not new. Actually it has been documented since the times of Ancient Egypt (thanks Cleopatra!)

Rightly or wrongly, we will always seek for advice on social media and magazines on how to achieve a perfect, blemish free ,smooth skin. Why? Because they are easy to access and free.

I am daily dealing with costumers that, although they invest on a great treatment plan, they don’t see the results they wish and after having a conversation with them, I come to the conclusion that it is because they use the X product that they read about or heard that it works miracles BUT it’s not the right product for them.

All I’m saying (although they are numerous honest ) is that there are hundreds of reviews that they are sponsored from a PR company that work for a beauty and skin care brand, so please be aware that the ‘experts’ are not always the experts.

If you suffer from or or any skin problem, it’s always worth taking the advice of the real experts such as dermatologist or Aestheticians.

Sunday vibes: Yoga for the body & mind!

I love Christmas but after eating non stop over the past few days my body needs some attention too!

Yoga is uplifting, helps to build muscle strength and boost metabolism, not to mention that increase self esteem!

Maskne is a type of breakout on the skin, which is caused by the constant friction of the mask material on your skin.

This type of acne is known as ‘acne mechanica’, it’s been around for very long time and commonly occur from the constant friction on the skin from wearing the mask for a long time.

Maskne is also triggered by pores being blocked by sweat, oil, makeup, and bacteria which sits on the skin under your mask. This can cause outbreaks of spots, blemishes, inflamed hair follicles, irritation, and redness.

What to do to prevent Maskne?

1. Wash your mask daily on high temperature or if you use disposable mask change it at least twice per day. Please keep using your mask to protect yourselves and others 🙏🏻

2. Cleanse your skin twice per day with an appropriate cleanser, if your skin is irritated is best to use a gently cleanser. If your skin is oily or you a prone to acne look for a salicylic acid based cleanser or foamy/ gel cleanser avoid ingredients such as alcohol, fragrance, sulphate/ sulfate and soap.

3. Use oily free products and sunscreen and keep the skin hydrated. Look for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and glycerin.

4. Use of salicylic acid (BHAs) toner, pads or spot treatment products and Retinol. I’m a big fan of skin supplements too, my personal favourite skin accumax and zinc.

5. Use minimum make up to avoid block the skin further, if you can’t live with out make try to use a BB tinted moisturiser or mineral make up, avoid powder and heavy coverage when possible.

6. Get regular face treatments (Let’s hope that the Tier4 restrictions will end soon!) to help with the turn over of the cells and avoid blocked pores, try the biorepeelcl3 peel that contains TCA and salicylic acid! You can see a different from the first time and it will leave your skin smooth and glowing!
