Should I wear a day cream with SPF in winter or not?

The answer is YES - it is important to protect your skin all year round.

Ultraviolet light is invisible to us and you might think that on cloudy days the sun isn’t damaging your skin, but in reality, even on cloudy and cold winter days, UVA rays are as active as on hot, sunny days.

UVB rays are high-energy short waves and are less dangerous in winter. They are more likely to cause redness and sunburns on sunnier days.

The SPF number says how much longer it would take for skin to get affected by sun radiation as compared to the time it stays unprotected. Be aware that on many face creams SPF number stands for the amount of UVB protection it provides. As both types of rays cause cellular and DNA damage that can lead to skin cancers, dermatologists recommend to daily wear face creams with broad spectrum SPF to limit exposure to damaging solar light.
