As lash artists we always stress the importance of cleaning your lashes. I know, it’s a chore but lash extensions are an investment.

On that note , what do you use to clean your lash extensions? I often times hear people say baby shampoo. Little did we know , baby shampoo it’s probably the worst thing you could use to wash your lashes with.

I did some research and here is what I found that explains why it’s so bad for not only your lashes but your eyes.

Baby shampoo might be gentle for your eyes but it’s not meant to go in , on or near to the eyes. It’s for hair not lashes.
Extensive use will cause dryness on your skin around the eye and strip it of its natural oils. Lash mites and demodex colonies thrive on dry skin cells which will increase your chances of getting blepharitis.

Baby shampoo also contains glycol which will break down the integrity of the lash adhesive , which means, quicker fallout and more frequent fills.
Ain’t nobody got time for that . 👀
“Tear free” baby shampoo doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s safe for the eyes . It is a numbing agent that it’s added to the shampoo to prevent the feeling of irritation. The ingredient is Cocamidopropyl Betaine which causes irritation and allergic contact dermatitis.
Other side effects are itching, burning and blistering of the skin.

We want your lashes to be clean, but the most important part is that they’re healthy. So , please ask your lash artist for their preferred lash shampoo the next time you make a visit ! ✨
