10 Ways Dads Can Bond with Their Newborn — Coco Birth Box Becoming a dad to a newborn is an incredible experience. These early weeks are a unique opportunity to establish a strong foundation of love and trust with your newborn.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

The concept of Coco Birth Box was originally inspired by my own personal postpartum recovery after having my daughter, nicknamed Coco. When we were given baby care samples at a midwife appointment, I felt excitement and anticipation for her arrival. But once Coco was born, I realised something was missing—support for my own health and recovery as a new mother.

Reflecting on that sample pack, I couldn't help but feel frustrated. While it provided insight into baby care, I longed for the same level of attention and resources for my own postpartum experience. This sparked a desire to create a box of postpartum care supplies for my close friends who were about to give birth. I wanted them to feel supported and not encounter the same surprises I did during my own journey.

OUR MISSION

The quick answer is to provide expectant women with practical supplies they might not know they need for their postpartum recovery and empower them with knowledge. The bigger picture, though, is to make this available to all expectant women, including those who have a low income—because care should never be influenced by income or social status. Each purchase brings awareness to the need for practical postpartum care which every woman has a right to.

With a donation scheme in progress, we plan to work with hospitals & maternity services that can make sure a Coco Birth Box goes to those who wouldn't otherwise be able to afford it.

WHY THIS BOX? Keeping Waste in Mind

As every birth experience differs, some people might need certain products more than others. Considering this, we put together the items that would meet the most common needs of a person's postpartum journey and which could be used in different ways (e.g. ice packs normally used to relieve pain from tearing can either be used as a maternity pad or for haemorrhoid relief). Of course, some products will be needed more or longer than others, but the contents of the Coco Birth Box are enough to get you through the first days after birth. We also hope the box gives you further clarity about what you will need as your postpartum recovery continues.
