Khoo Massage Therapies
I’m an upper-body massage specialist in London E9 focusing on TMJ, face, head, neck and shoulders. My aim from day one was simple. I sit somewhere in the middle.
I’m also a TMJ dysfunction sufferer, so my expertise come from personal experience. Sessions take place in my quiet residential studio near Victoria Park. How It All Began
I have always loved receiving massage, but finding someone who actually listened was rare. Many therapists said they tailored treatments, yet most followed their own plan. I often walked out feeling unchanged, or worse, with new

Buccal Massage is now available:
• as part of my TMJ Intra Oral Therapy
• incorporated into Natural Facelift treatments
• as a 30 minute add on alongside any other massage session
I decided to incorporate Buccal Massage after noticing something repeatedly both through treating clients and self treating my own TMJ dysfunction.
After deeper jaw release work, the jaw itself often felt looser, but the surrounding face could still feel bloated, tense or heavy afterwards.
While my existing Natural Facelift techniques already helped with this, Buccal Massage has honestly been a game changer in helping the entire face and jaw relax more harmoniously together.
Working both inside and outside the cheeks at the same time helps release wider facial tension patterns more thoroughly, while also helping gently warm up and soften the muscles surrounding the jaw before deeper intra oral work begins.
For clients with sensitive or reactive jaw tension, this can often make treatment feel less abrupt and more comfortable overall.
Many clients describe their face feeling lighter, softer and more relaxed afterwards.

Your jaw and neck share the same pain pathways.
So the pain does not always show up where you expect.
It can feel like
Headaches
Neck and shoulder tension
Pain behind the eyes
Ear symptoms with no infection
You might think it is something else entirely.
The pain is real.
Even if it is not coming from where you think.
This is why treating just one area often does not work.

“I could definitely feel it working.”
That line stuck with me.
This client came in for a Signature Head Neck and Shoulders massage. During our chat, it became clear her TMJ needed more direct work, so we added intra oral treatment.
It was her first time trying it.
She was understandably unsure at first. Most people are. But once we started, she settled into it and could feel the difference straight away.
That is often the turning point.
Because jaw pain is rarely just about the jaw. It links into your neck, your shoulders, even your posture and stress patterns.
Surface massage can help. But sometimes you need to go deeper. Literally.
If you have TMJ or upper body tension and nothing seems to fully shift it, it might be time to try a different approach.

You might not notice how much you are clenching.
Until it shows up as
Headaches
Jaw pain
Neck and shoulder tension
Your jaw can generate up to 50–70 kg of force when clenching.
That is a lot of pressure to be holding day after day.
This is why “just stop clenching” rarely works.
If your jaw has learned to stay tense, it will keep going back there unless something changes.
Targeted TMJ massage therapy works by reducing that load and helping the muscles switch off again.
For many people, it is the first time their jaw has properly relaxed in years.
But it takes consistency.
Without it, the tension returns.
If this sounds familiar, you are not alone. And it is something that can be worked on.

Most people with TMJ don’t actually know who to see.
They try one thing.
It doesn’t work.
So they assume nothing will.
That’s usually not true.
TMJ isn’t one condition.
It can come from
• Muscle tension and clenching
• Joint mechanics
• Teeth or bite
• Stress and overload
And each one needs a different approach.
For example
If your jaw clicks or locks, you may need a physio or osteopath
If it’s your bite, a dentist makes sense
If you’re clenching or holding tension, a TMJ Massage Specialist is often where things start to shift
This is where most people get stuck
Treating the symptom, not the cause
I’ve written a blog that breaks this down properly
What helps
What to try first
And when to escalate

If your jaw, temples, ears or neck are constantly tight or painful, it’s worth looking at the bigger picture

A client recently came to see me with a very tight, painful back and several muscle knots, along with bloating and constipation.
During the session we worked deeply through the muscles while also stimulating the lymphatic system to support the body’s natural drainage and circulation.
Afterwards she wrote:
“Carolyn didn’t just work deeply on my muscles but also stimulated my lymphatic system, which made a real difference.”
She also said something that really stood out:
“The neck massage was unlike anything I’ve experienced before. Incredibly precise and releasing.”
The neck, jaw and upper back are areas where tension quietly builds over months or years. When those areas are treated carefully, clients often notice changes well beyond the muscles themselves.
If you struggle with jaw tension, headaches, neck stiffness or upper body stress, that is exactly the work I specialise in.

Did you know TMJ dysfunction can cause ear symptoms?
Many people experience ear pain, ringing, or a feeling of pressure in the ear and assume the problem must be in the ear itself.
But because the jaw joint sits directly in front of the ear, TMJ dysfunction can sometimes cause symptoms such as:
• Ear pain
• A feeling of fullness
• Ringing in the ears
• Sound sensitivity
Even when the ear is completely healthy.
This overlap is one reason TMJ dysfunction is often misunderstood.

Many people assume jaw pain must mean something is wrong with the jaw joint itself.
But large diagnostic studies show that muscle driven TMJ dysfunction is the most common type.
This is why many people experience jaw pain, headaches, or facial tension even when scans look normal.
When the jaw muscles stay under constant load from clenching, stress, posture, or fatigue, they can become painful and dysfunctional without structural damage.
Understanding the difference between muscular, dental, and joint related TMJ dysfunction is key to finding the right treatment.

“I was looking for a TMJ specialist in London and this was the best value for money treatment I have ever experienced.”
Intra oral TMJ massage can feel unfamiliar at first. That honesty matters.
What matters more is the outcome. Reduced tension. Immediate jaw release.
My work focuses on muscular TMJ pain and stress related jaw tension.
Pressure is always tailored. Communication is constant.
If your jaw pain feels misunderstood elsewhere, this approach may help.
