Ever wondered what the meaning behind a paisley is? 🤔✨
I’ve always been instinctively drawn to the paisley and it is definitely one of my favourite shapes. I always try and incorporate it into my designs. But it got me thinking of the history behind the Paisley, the meaning and why it’s been used for many years in henna designs. With the help of Google and ChatGPT 🤣 I found that it carries thousands of years of sacred energy!
Depending on the era and culture, this iconic teardrop symbol represents:
🌱 New Beginnings & Life: In ancient Persia, it was the boteh, symbolizing a sprouting seed, renewal, and the “Tree of Life.”
🥭 Prosperity & Fortune: In Indian traditions, it represents the mango- a universal symbol of abundance, joy, and good luck for bridal celebrations.
🦚 Mughal Royalty & Grace: During the Mughal era, artists beautifully merged the shape with the silhouette of the peacock, transforming it into an emblem of royalty, elegance, and celestial beauty.

Still not over Sundays henna workshop with the super talented
Learnt new floral designs, and how to fine tune peacocks and elephants. I’m so excited to see how I put everything I learnt into practice! As another artist told me on Sunday it’s so important to invest in your skills and I’m so happy that i have! There’s always room for improvement.
Thank you for being my model! A shame we didn’t get to finish the design! Until next time 🙃
The wrap around 😍

👉🏼 to see the inspiration behind the design
Fun fact: I actually was going to do henna hands on the canvas (the design I did for her wedding) but I ended up making a mistake and left that canvas on the side for honestly a year! 2 days before I was meeting her I took it back out and something didn’t feel right, I wasn’t sure henna hands would be a good idea. Instead i thought I would do my usual style of canvases then it hit me, to take inspiration from her design. Next question, what colours. I pulled out images of her wedding and knew instantly it would be her bridal outfit colours. And this is the end piece. A key lesson for me, there are no mistakes in life, just a redirection 🙃
I only had a few hours to complete it and did not have enough time to take good pictures 🤦🏽♀️

The colours 😍
A canvas I gifted a dear friend who loves her art! I took inspiration from her bridal mehndi and then used the colours of her bridal outfit for the canvas.
What do you think?

I am incredibly proud of this one! I usually do not do elephants but as always I like to challenge myself! only had 1 request which was the elephant designs in the palm of the hand and the rest she gave me free rein! I took inspiration from and this was my interpretation!
