At first, it might just be a click when walking downstairs, discomfort going downhill, or a sharp pain when bending the knee a certain way. You might tell yourself it’s probably nothing serious and hope it will settle on its own, but over time, you start anticipating the pain before it even happens. Does this sound familiar?
The knee is one of the hardest-working joints in the body, involved in almost every part of day-to-day movement. Pain, clicking, stiffness or instability can happen for many different reasons, from overload and irritation, through to underlying injuries, or age-related joint changes.
Not all clicking knees are a problem, but if it’s painful, persistent, limiting your movement, or making you anxious about using the joint, it’s worth getting assessed properly rather than trying to work around it.
In a physiotherapy assessment, we will look closely at how the knee is moving, how weight is being managed through the joint, and whether surrounding areas such as the hips or ankles may also be contributing. From there, we create a clear plan to help reduce pain, improve strength and stability, and support you in moving with more confidence again.
You don’t need to just “put up with it.”

Tension has a way of quietly building throughout the body and it can leave you feeling tight, heavy, and restricted - particularly through areas like the forearms, neck, and legs.
One easy way to release tension at home is using a soft tissue tool such as a gua sha or a fascia knife.
Whilst many people associate gua sha with facial treatments, these tools can also be used across the body to help stimulate blood flow, encourage tissue mobility, and temporarily reduce feelings of tightness and stiffness.
Here, Senior Physiotherapist Tamas demonstrates a few simple techniques you can try at home:
Forearms: using upward strokes to stimulate circulation and release tension built through gripping, typing, or training
The neck: working gently downward to ease tension through the neck and upper shoulders
Thighs and legs: helping to reduce feelings of heaviness and improve tissue movement
We’re using arnica oil here, which is often used to support recovery and soothe tired muscles.
In physiotherapy, Tamas often incorporates these kinds of tools into a hands-on treatment to help prepare the body for deeper soft tissue work and movement-based rehabilitation. But they can also be a really effective self-care tool to use at home between treatments.
If ongoing tension, stiffness or pain is affecting your movement, our Spring Physio Reset is designed to help you properly assess what’s going on and build a clear recovery plan. Tap the link in our bio to learn more. 🔗

Most people have experienced the occasional headache or stiff neck after a stressful week or long day at work, but when it becomes a regular occurrence, it can start to affect everything. Concentration drops, energy disappears, and you begin trying to “push through” the day whilst relying on caffeine, painkillers, and hoping it will pass.
There are many possible causes of persistent neck pain and headaches. Sometimes it’s linked to prolonged desk work, jaw clenching, stress and tension held through the body. Other times, the picture is more complex and requires a more detailed assessment.
Recurring headaches and neck pain should always be properly assessed by a GP, especially if symptoms are persistent or worsening. Physiotherapy can support by helping to identify whether tension, movement restrictions, posture, stress, or loading through the neck and shoulders may also be contributing.
In physiotherapy, we look beyond just the symptoms. We assess how your neck, shoulders and upper back are moving, but also the wider lifestyle factors that may be contributing to the problem. From there, we can create a clear plan to help reduce pain, improve movement, and stop pain from interrupting your day-to-day life.

Heres three ways to put that foam roller to good use over the weekend:
1. Position the foam roller along the back of the neck and move the head to release those tense muscles at the base of the skull and top of the neck.
2. Line the foam roller up to the outer edges of the back - roll gently back and forth.
3. Using the elbows to support and to help you move back and forth, roll over the top the tops of the thighs.
Your fascia will thank you. 💛

Walking is one of the most natural forms of movement we have, but in modern life, many of us rarely slow down enough to really experience it.
For some, walking is simply functional. For others, it becomes something much more: a way to clear the mind, process thoughts, reconnect with the body, explore new places, or return to a sense of calm and perspective.
Fast or slow. Through cities, forests, hills, coastlines, or local parks. Walking asks very little of us, yet gives a great deal back.
In honour of National Walking Month, here are a few moments captured by CEO and Founder Suz during her time walking sections of the Camino de Santiago trail in Spain - a journey shaped by movement, reflection, challenge, weather, stillness, and miles of changing landscape.
At SF Studios, we often speak about movement in the context of rehabilitation, strength, recovery, and health - but walking is perhaps the simplest reminder that movement does not always need to be intense to be meaningful.
A few reflections for your next walk:
- When was the last time you walked without rushing?
- Where do you feel most calm when walking?
- What changes when you spend more time moving outdoors?
- If you could walk anywhere tomorrow, where would it be?
Happy from all of us at SF Studios. Let’s get outside! 👣

Surgery can feel like a daunting and uncertain time.
Whether it’s something that’s been planned for months, or a more recent development, it’s understandable to feel apprehensive about the recovery process - particularly when movement, independence, or day-to-day life may be temporarily affected.
What many people don’t realise is that recovery often begins before surgery itself. Preparing the body with targeted exercise and physiotherapy can help improve strength, mobility, and resilience ahead of a procedure, whilst also supporting a smoother recovery afterwards.
Following surgery, physiotherapy plays an important role in helping the body return to full function - rebuilding strength, restoring confidence in movement, and supporting you as you gradually return to everyday life.
In a physiotherapy assessment, we take time to understand both the procedure and your individual goals, so we can guide you with a clear and appropriate plan before and after surgery.
If you’re preparing for surgery, or navigating recovery afterwards, our team are here to support you through the process.
