Always time for a stretch. 3000m high, on a wobbly suspension bridge, faced with the most perfect ballet barre... why not 🤩

LOVE this. The outer body experiences of both floating above and drawing deep within, are both very vivid in my mind. Despite my last birth being 8 years ago. It was such an empowering experience....

What if we told women the truth about birth?

We’d have to tell them that contractions will probably be more than “surges” or “sensations.”

That they’ll probably rock your world and leave you begging for salvation as you clutch the edge of the tub or the hospital linens.

That your gentle breathing exercises and your Spotify soundtrack will be left in the dust as you sweat and pant and sway and swear your way through it

That you’ll trip harder than any mushroom you ever did in college and vomit with the same ferocity and travel to places deep within yourself that you didn’t know existed.

That you’ll float above your body and simultaneously be trapped in it with an intensity you’ve never tasted.

And in that intensity,
in the sweating and the swearing
and the swaying and the vomiting
and the endless hours of contractions crashing down upon you ...

You’ll find your strength.
You’ll find a resilience you’ve never known.
You’ll find the power you need for the journey of Motherhood ahead.

In the messy humanity of it all,
you’ll find that you are holy.
A portal to the divine.
Capable of indescribable miracles.
A vessel of sacred life.

What if we told women the truth about birth?
We’d have to tell them they are capable of anything.

Worthy of being treated like goddesses.
Made to walk through the flames,
surf the tidal waves,
dive into the underworld
And come out alive.

Not unscathed.
Not unchanged.
But whole
and healed
and ready to take on the world.

If we told women the truth about birth,
we’d have to admit that we’ve lied about everything else,
and that they are more powerful,
more fierce,
more capable,
more beautiful,
than we’ve ever let on.

If we told the truth about birth?
We’d shatter the world.

I've got the bug... the Kettlebells lure me in and I find myself slightly addicted to Strength and Conditioning. Definitely a love/hate relationship with press ups though! The S&C classes are ace and I am beginning to feel the benefits 💪🏼

A gorgeous 7am 'Rise and Spine' class with team BroJo to blow away the cobwebs after a cheeky couple of drinks with friends last night. It's funny watching self practice in time lapse. It hides a multitude of sins but also highlights other imperfections, like how my head dips every time i do a press up, rather staying long through the back of the neck. There's always plenty to practice.... thank you and . Now for coffee ☕️

I've been a bit quiet on here recently as there's lots of change at LK Pilates HQ... more on that another time. This year marks 10 years since I set up my little business, instructing Pilates classes in the comfort of my clients' homes. In that time, I focused on, although not exclusively, serving pre and post natal women who either couldn't access exercise classes or needed a little more help maintaining or regaining strength and synergy, or simply just wanted Pilates tailored to their needs. Time has marched on (why does it go by so fast?!) and these very same, wonderfully empowered and fierce women, are now finding themselves transitioning somewhere between peri to post menopause and at a loss with how to get help.

Did you know that a third of a woman's life is spent in this phase. A THIRD! Yet socio-cultural beliefs have led us to brush this topic under the carpet and 'get on with it'. Thankfully menopause is fast becoming a hot topic (quite literally for some 🥵 ) and more specialists are speaking out. But the fact of the matter is many medical professionals are poorly educated in this field, there is a lack of information disseminated to women (and men!) and the subject is rooted in shame. So how best can I serve my clients who fall into this category? By educating myself of course.

18 months ago I signed up to study Burrell Education's 3rd Age Woman - Menopause Transition Online Certification and it's taken me until now to begin. It's intense, unbelievably thorough, incredibly presented by a number of highly experienced professionals and I'm going to do my very best to absorb and inform. (Note the mind map I created on the first presentation of module 1... this could take me a while😄). I've got your backs ladies💪🏼

How many of you wonderful Mummies gave birth on your back with your knees wide open? Here is a fabulous example of why that just isn't a functional way of birthing.... but we are often not guided otherwise. Hats off to you if you managed it! 💪🏼

It's been 11 years since I taught this as a set work to A Level students and learnt some of the rep from the Company and it was great to be back in the theatre watching it tonight. Matthew Bourne holds a special place in my heart and I might go so far as to say he may well be my favourite choreographer💃 his rework of the Classic Nutcracker is such fun, full of colour and really accessible. I wonder how many of my students remember the marshmallow and gobstopper rep?

This gorgeous little chap did not want to be far from his Master in today's one to one. I think he thinks we're bonkers when he sees us moving around his living room☺️. I've known him since he arrived at my client's house 10 years ago. He's got a fierce bark but is such a softie really 🐶🥰

Throwback to when my youngest was a toddler. Look at his form! A practically perfect plank position 💪🏼

Leaping in to the new year like....! I hope 2022 brings a sunny holiday, I miss the sun! 🌞

Every year I try and set myself some fitness goals. This year, I would like to continue developing my strength and conditioning training; lift heavier; bring back my flexibility which has reduced post injury, and up my cardio game. I won't bore you with the specifics as there's lots to do, but it feels so great when it finally starts paying off.

What are your goals?

I often get asked where to start when it comes to fitness goals, particularly at this time of year which is notorious for an increase in gym memberships and can be somewhat overwhelming! I like to think of exercise as an investment in my future health so start small and build up. Think long-term. Change one thing this week. Perhaps it's taking the stairs instead of the lift or escalator. Maybe it's taking a 20 minute lunch time walk if you are stuck at your desk all day. Or a 10 minute stretch before bed or whilst watching Netflix. Build it into your routine and then focus on the next goal. This is far more realistic, manageable and sustainable. Happy New Year folks. 💪🏼
