The future of barbering education is evolving, and it’s crucial that we have open and honest conversations about the best routes into the industry.

I recently had the pleasure of joining Emma Mackay, Senior Product Lead, City and Guilds on The Noble Barber Podcast, the number one podcast for the barbering industry. We tackled some of the most relevant and pressing questions surrounding barbering education—covering everything from apprenticeships to private short courses and full-time college-based learning.

It was a fantastic opportunity to debate the strengths and challenges of each pathway and to highlight the importance of qualification standards in shaping the next generation of barbers.

NEW Level 2 Hairdressing and Barbering Professional Apprenticeship standards.

We are pleased to be able to let you know that the City & Guilds new builds for the mandatory On-programme (OP) Qualifications for the Level 2 Hairdressing and Barbering Professional standards are now LIVE.

Please use the following codes when registering Apprentices onto the following City & Guilds OP qualifications:

1. City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals - Hairdressing 603/1379/1 – NEW registration code = 7002-06

2. City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals - Barbering 603/1380/8 – NEW registration code = 7002-07

If you have made a registration onto a City & Guilds OP qualification since the NEW Level 2 Hairdressing and Barbering Professional standards were approved (22nd May 2023 for Barbering and 23rd May 2023 for Hairdressing) we will be in touch shortly to support you in transferring your Apprentice over to the new code.
