Meet Let’s be honest — this wasn’t just a bad haircut.
This is what happens when 4C hair is put in the hands of someone who doesn’t understand it.

Her hair was severely dehydrated, then cut with clippers in its shrunken state, with no stretch, no sectioning, no thought to shape. Just uneven lengths and no structure. I see this far too often — rushed, lazy cutting on textured hair.

4C hair is not “one length fits all.”
Shrinkage is real, and if you don’t cut with that in mind, you’re setting the client up to struggle with their hair every single day. This is exactly why some people with curly hair end up thinking that their hair is the problem when actually it’s the technique!

For Celia, this wasn’t about changing her texture — it was about correcting the damage. We focused on deep hydration and refining the shape so it actually works with her hair, not against it.

Yes, her hair was straightened temporarily for the finish — but her curls will revert beautifully, just healthier, more hydrated, and sitting in a proper shape.

Ain’t no party like a Hype Coiffure Party!
Still overflowing with love after celebrating 30 years of Hype Coiffure last night. 💜✨

I’ve been part of Hype for nearly three decades (even though I still claim I’m 28! 🤣), and this milestone reminded me exactly why this place has always been more than a job — it’s been family.

From the moment I walked into the salon in 1997, Calvin — our Uncle Calvin — believed in me and changed the course of my life. And everyone who has ever worked in those four walls knows exactly why we call him Uncle.

Hype has given me memories I’ll treasure forever the shows, the workshops, the travels, the late nights!
Last night we honoured some of the incredible people who built this legacy:
Chester, , Charmaine Jones , Lydia, Kadeem .campbelll Nuno, Maria, Iman — and many more who will always be part of the Hype story.
We remembered Sharlene,Wari, Anne and our beloved Alan Henry, who we sadly lost this year. Forever in our hearts. 🤍

And to our clients — thank you.
You don’t just come to get your hair done.
You come to breathe, to feel safe, to be held, understood, uplifted.
You are the soul of this salon.

Last night was a celebration of everything Hype stands for:
