The keyhole bunion journey - from an x-ray showing a good size bunion to an x-ray showing a bunion corrected with keyhole bunion surgery and well healed bone! The best movement comes with massaging each scar and diligent stretching of the big toe joint from its base! I called that’s the rule of fives as it should be performed 5 times a day for best results!
Here’s a great example of movement after keyhole bunion surgery - the surgery uses five small cuts to break or osteotomise the bones either the side of the big toe joint - by then move them into a straight alignment and fix them with three screws as seen in the second x-ray - these hold the bound in a good position till you get new bone formation and during this time from two weeks onwards once the bandages come down you can start stretching the big toe joint and massaging the scars as well as icing to get the best out of the surgery!

Super kind of my star defender to share some of his recovery here having got back on the pitch around five weeks after having keyhole cheilectomy and Akin to shave down a large arthritic spur and straighten his big toe little using an Akin osteotomy with an element of Moberg to encourage movement in a worn out joint - I much prefer doing this rather than fusing the joint together! Again best 🦶forwards! We got a draw in the game by the way!
Here’s a summary guide around my approach to keyhole bunion surgery! Enjoy and best 🦶🦶🏻🦶🏼🦶🏽🦶🏾🦶🏾forward!

It’s true the foot and ankle are indeed complicated - you can have one problem like a bunion or an Achilles tendon rupture or many problems like a bunion with changes to your second toe and maybe some arthritis - there can also be problems that you didn’t know about - what we can incidental findings - but as you didn’t know about them, they aren’t really problems - if they don’t cause pain don’t touch it! Communication and information are key to understanding and owning your problem be it simple or complex! The more you know the easier is to deal with and happier you’ll be ❤️🦶
