At the 18th Perrin Conference today, listening to speakers talk about some exciting ways we can help people with ME/CFS recover.

Being my most authentic self by showing up to the airport way too early, so that I can read.
Chronic pain affects 1.5 billion people worldwide, and the prevailing biomedical model of treatment is not fit for purpose.
Qualifying as a SIRPA practitioner has helped me help my patients so much more effectively, as well as taking me on a journey of deeper self- knowledge.

So excited for this opportunity to hear incredible speakers talk about cutting edge research into approaches to help with chronic conditions, where conventional healthcare as failed.

"After the acute phase of the illness resolved, 1 month after diagnosis, the patient continued to experience post‐COVID symptoms, including severe anxiety, depression, insomnia, joint pain (hips, knees, shoulders, jaw), cognitive issues (brain fog, poor reading comprehension and endurance, word finding, and short‐term memory), headaches, and a sharp decrease in libido"

Well isn't this an exciting development

***Please bear in mind that this is a sample size of ONE**

As the authors noted
"
As with any case report, the present study is limited in its generalizability. A universal cause–effect relationship between psychedelics and Long‐COVID may not be drawn, particularly given the lack of blinding, randomization, and direct oversight over psychedelics dosing protocol in this study. However, this case reinforces the need for more robust investigation with larger sample sizes into the psychedelics use for a poorly controlled chronic illness such as Long‐COVID"

Grateful to have been able to give myself a teeny holiday from in-person work...and (finally!)completing this wonderful course on and in by the over this sunny bank holiday clearly shows that I love what I do.
Or maybe I need to get out more

Aaargh sorry, finding it challenging to post a Google review to IG.

Full review text follows, then some angry rumblings.

"For anyone seeking gynaecology consultation, I could not recommend Jackie at Evolution more strongly. Jackie could not have made me feel more calm or safe; and provided the best service, guidance regarding my endometriosis. For years I have felt that I haven’t been listened to or able to get the treatment I needed, not only did Jackie support me with getting a diagnosis but also treated me with the ongoing treatment to look after my body and get me back to health. Jackie is a very friendly, calm person who really did make the experience not only manageable but far less daunting. She has a wealth of experience in female health and I am so glad I was able to gain knowledge from her.
Thank you Jackie!"

Now for the grumbles:
I love a good review, but reading this made me SO. ANGRY.

I shouldn’t have to be thanked for being the first #HealthcareProfessional to listen to her. For years.

J’s experience of being dismissed is sadly normal for people with endometriosis. The average age of diagnosis is between 25-35 years old, with the average delay in receiving that diagnosis being 8 years in this country. That is eight years of unexplained pain, bleeding, anxiety and fear that is trivialised and normalised.

She was happy to be diagnosed with endo, because that meant that she wasn’t crazy, it wasn’t all in her head.

How can people who get into the medical profession become so blinded to patient experience? I assume that doctors and nurses get into medicine because they care about people. What kind of structure changes them into….this?

The Government's Women’s Health Strategy is a tiny step in the right direction.

Acknowledging that women are not treated equally in the sphere of healthcare.
Yet implicitly stating that only the experiences of cisgendered women matter.

J is fortunate to be white, cis and able to access private healthcare. Her diagnosis took 6 years.

What about the people who do not identify as women, who face #gynaecological challenges of their own?
