“They’re in YOUR chair for a reason.”

This week, we’re sitting down with .co, an award-winning hairstylist who’s creating fine art with textured hair—and she just dropped the reminder every stylist needs to hear.

Struggling to speak up when a client wants something that won’t work? Second-guessing yourself in the chair? Here’s what Aminah wants you to remember:

Hair is YOUR profession. Hair is what YOU specialise in. The person sitting in your chair does not specialise in hair—you do.

They chose you.
They trust you.
That’s why they’re there.

So when you need to redirect them, educate them, or talk them out of a decision that’ll damage their hair—remember you’re not being difficult. You’re doing your job.

Aminah also talks about her journey from student stylist to award winner, creating hair art for music albums, navigating the industry as she works on completing her licence, and why we need to bring salon culture back.

Mind your business and drink your water 💧

Last week, and had the conversation we all need to hear: hair policing within the Black community.

Not the kind from workplaces or schools—the kind that comes from our own people. The “is that all your hair?” comments. The “you look better with it straight” backhanded compliments. The strangers debating if your length is real.

We already face enough hair discrimination from outside our community. We don’t need to add to it by tearing each other down over length, texture, color, or styling choices.

So here’s your reminder: Turn in your hair police badge. Let people live. Mind your business. And drink your water 🚰

Have you been on the receiving end of hair policing? Drop a comment 👇🏾

“Does anyone know that I’m the only Black person here?”

carried this feeling for a long time —talking to her husband about being the only one in rooms she broke barriers to step into, wondering if anyone else even noticed.

Then someone finally asked her about it in an interview. And she felt seen.

This is what it’s like to be “the first.” The isolation. The weight. The moment when someone finally acknowledges what you’ve been carrying alone.

Naeemah made history as the first Black woman to serve as Global Artistic Director at a major beauty brand outside the textured hair space. But the accolades don’t tell you about the rooms where she was the only one. The exhaustion of being a pioneer. The quiet moments of wondering if it’s all worth it.

Spoiler: It was. Because now she’s opened doors for everyone coming behind her through Texture On Set and Black On Set.

This is our final episode of 2025 and we’re ending on a HIGH. Full conversation with one of the biggest names in textured hair—link in bio 🔥

Have you ever been the only one in the room? How did you navigate it? 👇🏾

Some clients hand you full creative control. Others know exactly what they want and won’t budge.

breaks down what they don’t tell you about working with celebrity clients—when you get to bring the vision versus when you’re executing theirs.

Morgan loves working with Young Thug - he’s very easy going —gives her an idea and says, “make it happen.”

But not every client works that way. Some are stern in their style and won’t go outside the box. And honestly? Both are valid.

The real lesson: Client chemistry matters more than the name. You could style your dream client, and it could be a nightmare if the fit isn’t right.

Morgan also talks about creating those iconic pink locs, why she launched her luxury extensions brand, and how she’s building salon suites that bring community back to the industry 💇🏾‍♀️

Hair grief is real - and it’s time we talked about it 💔

This week and cataandaj are having one of the most honest conversations we’ve had on the podcast: what happens when you experience unexpected hair loss or damage.

Whether it’s heat damage, a stylist who chemically straightened your hair without permission, stress-induced shedding, or hormonal changes during perimenopause - the emotional impact is real.

Here’s what we’re covering:

👉🏾 Why the “deep conditioner” that’s actually a relaxer is still happening

👉🏾 How stylist persuasion can work for you or against you

👉🏾 Why “it’s just hair, it grows back” isn’t always true

👉🏾 The difference between grief you can control and grief you can’t

👉🏾 How to separate your self-worth from your hair

The reality: When your hair changes unexpectedly, you’re not just grieving the hair. You’re grieving the loss of choice, the broken trust, and sometimes the person you saw yourself as.

Have you experienced hair grief? How did you move through it? Drop your story in the comments 👇🏾

From dorm room to Fashion Week runways - but the journey wasn’t glamorous 👀

This week we’re sitting down with , a licensed cosmetologist and editorial stylist who’s keeping it real about what it takes to build a hair business with intention.

Here’s what she’s breaking down:

✨ Why protective styles on dry hair aren’t protecting anything

✨ The intake form question that sets the tone: “Will you come with good vibes?”

✨ The reality of balancing shoots in New York, clients in Maryland, and a wedding in New Jersey - all in one week

✨ Why beauty brands need hairstylists on their marketing teams, not just influencers

Ariana’s reality check: she’s figuring out balance just like everyone else. The Instagram highlight reel doesn’t show the 3 am drives or unopened award boxes.

This episode is for anyone building something from scratch and trying to do it with intention.

Dirty hair grows” is one of the BIGGEST myths ever 🚫

This week we’re back with an episode that will challenge some of the things we were all taught about our hair growing up.

is breaking down why waiting a month (or more) between washes is actually stopping your hair from growing - not helping it.

Here’s the truth: Dirty scalp = clogged follicles = inflammation = problems you don’t want

Your scalp is skin. Would you go a month without showering? Then why do that to your hair? The rule: Wash every 7-10 days. 14 days MAX
This is just 1 of 5 major myths we’re debunking in this episode.

What other hair myths did you grow up believing? Drop them in the comments 👇🏾

What happens when you bring together a group of braiders, a purpose-led beauty founder, and a shared mission to shift the industry?

Real talk. Real numbers. Real solutions.

This week’s business support session with was packed and powerful.

Our founder sat down with .dosso to explore how braiders can run more sustainable businesses and offer their clients safer, chemical-free hair options.

Why does this matter?

Because clients are asking for better, and they’re looking to stylists for answers.

📊 What we’re seeing:
→ 72% of textured hair clients worry about scalp irritation and product safety
→ 58% are actively seeking eco-friendlier options (but don’t know where to start)
→ 65% feel overwhelmed or uninformed when choosing braiding hair
→ And most trust their braider more than any brand or blog

Stylists want to meet that need, but also need the tools to make it work.

Kadidja broke down:
→ How to plan and purchase stock efficiently
→ Sites that offer wholesale and net terms
→ Charging clients for your actual cost of goods sold (COGS)
→ Marketing high-quality hair without shrinking your prices

And the feedback said it all:
🗣️ “Found this so helpful! Can’t wait for the next one.”
🗣️ “I’m ready to make my transition!! Thank you, ladies 🤍”
🗣️ “Definitely interested in offering non-toxic hair—messaged you about classes.”

If you’re a braider or stylist trying to align your values with your pricing, this is just the beginning.

Let’s build businesses that protect our health, honour our craft, and create real wealth.
