M Y C A K E ✨ 13 years ago today we cut our own wedding cake & it couldn’t be more different to the style I make now! Although at the time I’d never been more proud as it was a hobby back then & I had zero skill / experience / training! If you know me & my cake design style now I am a pro this will make you chuckle… 🤭
It was a FONDANT covered FRUIT CAKE (that my mum made, I didn’t even bake it!), with a lace ribbon wrapped around the joins of each tier (which are about a quarter of the height of one of my tiers today!), with handmade fondant ‘roses’, on a PLASTIC gold stand & lookalike cake TOPPER I found from The National Wedding Show when it used to be in Earls Court to finish it off!! I’m not sure if there were any dowels in it for stability! & I don’t think I even ate it as I was too busy eating my way through the cheese table 🤣
Now I see all the things that were so terribly wrong with it & make me cringe as a professional designer - but I still remember the sense of achievement I felt & how excited I was to show it off to all our friends - which is what it’s really all about 💕
And yep, we cut it with a family sword. That part I absolutely would do again if we did it all over ✨
