Redirecting our thoughts.
You donโt have to control your thoughts but you can choose to stop letting them control you.
Your mind is very powerful, but it doesnโt always speak the truth, right?
Negative thoughts? Doubts? Fears? See them as passing clouds in the sky of your mind.
The key isnโt to fight or control them. Itโs to recognize them for what they are: temporary.
You do have the power to choose which thoughts you give attention to and which ones you let fade awayโฆ Take a deep breath.
You are not your thoughts. You are the awareness behind them.

Do you know how to redirect negative thoughts? You can actually transform a moment of pressure into a chance for growth by asking yourself the right questions. Shifting the focus from what is wrong to what you can learn or celebrate changes your perspective and gives you the clarity to move forward. Shift the focus (redirect / reorient your thoughts) and you'll also shift the feeling you have about a particular situation.
Learn how to actively redirect your thoughts, breaking negative loops by acknowledging them and consciously replacing them with more constructive or neutral ones.
Effective Methods for Redirecting Thoughts:
- The "Cancel and Replace" Technique: When catching a negative thought, say "Cancel that" and immediately replace it with a positive alternative, such as changing "I'm not good enough" to "I'm improving every day and in every way".
- Cognitive Reframing (Catch it, Check it, Change it): Identify unhelpful thoughts, challenge their validity, and replace them with more balanced, realistic perspectives.
- Cognitive Diffusion: Create distance from thoughts by adding phrases like "I'm having the thought that...".
- Grounding and Sensory Techniques: Engage the senses by looking for specific colours in your environment, also focusing on sounds, scents, taste and touch.
- Visualising Separation: Use techniques like visualising thoughts as, for instance, "leaves on a stream" to allow them to pass without emotional engagement.
- Distraction: Actively focus on a task, such as playing a game, calling a friend, or reviewing a poem or a song.
- Writing/Journaling: Express. externalise, analyse and reframe unhelpful thoughts through journaling.

Changes are a part of life. Each change gives us a new perspective, a new learning experience, a chance to grow in a new way. Life takes us places... I might feel comfortable where I am but I donโt have to stay where Iโm planted. I can bloom elsewhere! I have within me the courage to uproot and uprooting might mean changing careers, letting go of relationships, moving to a new home. It might also mean choosing to release behaviours which are not serving me anymore ๐ It's MY life, MY choices, MY blooming ๐
