Sometimes less is more 😌

I’m not sure when this became a thing, but there are regular videos circulating on how hair ruins henna and it should be removed.

Being completely honest, a flat smooth service is obviously going to be easier to work on and will have sharper lines. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t get nice results with hair. is a wonderful example of this!

What you do with your hair is completely up to you, and your hair is not a barrier to having a beautiful mehndi design. You just need to find the right artist who can do so.

It is important to add in if you do remove your hair, then that should be done prior to application. As most hair removal methods also remove a layer of skin, which will effect your stain if done after application.

I get it, we’re in a cost of living crisis and henna is a luxury item. So it may not be a must have for every bride at the moment.

If this is the case for you, then def check out the above! For any of the DIY suggestions please make sure you purchase mehndi from a reputable henna artist and not the random cones sold in shops.

Not only are they dangerous and can cause allergic reactions, but they’re actually a lot harder to use than the handmade cones and create messier designs.

I know I’ve touched on this subject before, but I thought this is a good snapshot of timings.

The timings are just a guideline and designs can take more or less time depending on lots of factors such as hand size, the time between people and how busy the event is.
will vary for different henna artists so it’s really important to speak to your henna artist about timings before your booking. So everyone is on the same page.

It’s a common misconception that designs with space are easy and quick to apply. In some cases like party henna this is true, as we need to get a lot of people done quickly so we do smaller designs with easy elements.

However this is not the case for every “spacey” design, especially for bridal clients.

Whilst there is less area to cover, there is also less space to hide. As fewer elements are used, the elements in the design have to be perfect as they are the main focus. There is even more importance on ensuring symmetry too, as everything is more noticeable.

Spacey designs can also include more complex elements that you wouldn’t always include in heavier designs due to time constraints.

So whilst it’s easy to assume that a design with lots of skin showing is an easy or quick option, always talk to your artist to confirm. As we know how long it can really take, and can advise on our own timings so there is no confusion ❤️

Will still be posting and doing henna, I just don’t want to take on any new bookings with the risk of cancelling last min or making my Mum use all her annual leave again!

Henna is a wonderful beautiful thing, but it takes time! Which is one thing unfortunately most wedding houses don’t have. The idea of having all 4 sides done is a common and understandable dream, but isn’t always practical given the time each person will need.

In my option only the Mum/ siblings of the bride/groom should have full hands or all 4 sides done. Any other close family should have 2 mediums designs. Then the rest basic strips.

Though tbh we all have that guest that will declare they are the most important person and needs almost bridal level henna lol!
