UCLU Musical Theatre Society’s Term 1 Bloomsbury show “The Mystery of Edwin Drood” are taking applications for choreographers! Drood is a murder mystery based on the last unfinished novel of Charles Dickens, with excellent music and a twist at the end — the audiences chooses the ending, with around 17 different options to choose from! The show will be performed from 3-5 December 2015 in the Bloomsbury theatre and will be rehearsed through term 1. Commitment will most likely be Wednesday afternoons and one day of the weekend.

You will need experience in ballet and/or contemporary to choreograph a storytelling section called “Jasper’s Vision” for advanced dancers. The rest of the show is in a music hall style (which is similar in some ways to American vaudeville) and should be aimed at less experienced dancers — for this it would be helpful to have some good knowledge of jazz. If you aren’t experienced in any of these styles, but you’re otherwise still interested, please get in touch anyway! We are open to suggestions.

There are eight dances in the show; we’d love to find someone who could choreograph them all, but if you would prefer to co- or assistant choreograph then we would still be very excited to hear from you!

YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE CHOREOGRAPHED A SHOW BEFORE. Just be enthusiastic and have ideas! This project is going to be loads of fun and the show is ace with loads of room for you to put your own spin on it.

Send us an email via [email protected] telling us what dance experience you have and why you think you’d be good at the job. It’d also be nice if you could tell us why you’re interested in the show/choreographing, but don’t worry about detailing whole dances.

Need something to look forward too? On 2nd June, all of the UCLU Arts Societies are heading on down to Cafe de Paris for a night of food, fun, awards and DANCING! The deadline to buy tickets is TOMORROW!

Both individual and society awards are announced, and dance society has been short-listed for a fair few:

Most improved arts society, Best overall Arts Society, best event (triple bill showcase), best garage theatre performance (freshers showcase), best volunteering society, best project (DanceIt! volunteering project), best collaboration (triple bill showcase) AND the diversity and inclusion award.

Tickets cost £42 but this includes a three course meal (which is of the highest standard), wine and champagne (which isn't a measly glass), usually use of a photobooth, and entry into Cafe de Paris! It is definitely not one to be missed.
