My Colour Stylist

I am so lucky to have been able to meet Nada in Qatar. She is a very experienced colour stylist in Doha and we last met in my home in the UK when she came to visit my studio.
Working with stylists from different parts of the world adds so much to our knowledge. Nada is passionate and very open to sharing her knowledge.

Is one season enough??
This week I have had two clients who love one season and feel it is perfect - but they want a little bit of another as well!
I am packing this Dark Autumn swatch pack for Nikki. The Dark Autumn deep and rich palette is perfect for her. However - she is a dance teacher and also has to do glamorous events. For these she wants a few colours that shout out “I’ve arrived and I’m amazing” - which she is! Bright Spring gave us the extra wow she wants for these occasions.

Say hello to Susie. I met Susie a few years ago when she came for a session to build a bespoke palette for Light Spring. She already knew her season but wanted the chance to dive in and review her neutrals and colours with me. We looked at summertime and wintertime (which is so much harder for both Light Seasons!). We looked at colours for holidays, relaxed times and work. Accessory colours and jewellery.

This is Ketishia. She ended up getting the train from London to see me because she couldn’t find a black colour stylist!
We had a great very long appointment and she was able to get a collection of Dark Autumn swatches with a few additions that lifted the overall brightness of the palette. She was happy it really reflected who she is and matched her colouring. I am very lucky that I have built a collection of over two thousand fabric swatches and so I build palettes for every single client. For most colour stylists that have fixed palettes it is impossible to adjust them.
I regularly come back to the question of equality within colour analysis. After meeting Ketishia I spent a long time on Google trying to find black colour stylists in the uk who are seeing clients in their studios and found none. I went to Pinterest and within a few examples I was back to white faces. There have been massive improvements in make up for deeper skin tones. There are lots of experts in hair.
So my big question is ….who are the experts in colour analysis for black women? I do not want to own this project, but would love the chance to work with a group of black women to review the seasonal tones starting from scratch and see how those colour palettes would look. I have all the swatches, digital tools and technical skills to be able to support this review process and create the palettes. I would love to get in touch with any colour stylists out there who are already doing this at a sensible price point or anyone who would like to be part of the process.

Once you know your colours, you start seeing them everywhere. For light seasons, once you have seen how black adds shadows and ages you, you can’t stop seeing it.
Two of my clients got in touch this week to say that they find they just can’t wear their black tops now! They are being Vinted or going to charity shops.
For some people this is a huge change for their wardrobe as black is such a core option in every shop and wardrobe.

2 Blue is still very dominant in the palette adding an overall coolness
3 The colours are slightly softened as if in a watery bubble
4 On the right person they make a MAGICAL transformation of a healthy fresh glow that lights up the whole person.
