Extreme weight loss can completely transform confidence… but it can also leave behind significant facial volume loss and deep nasolabial folds that make patients feel older or more tired than they actually are!
This result was achieved using medium viscosity filler with a cannula technique to restore support, soften folds naturally, and maintain movement without looking overfilled or puffy. There’s a fine line which those with experience will know not to cross!
It should be subtle and structural yet undetectable. In appropriate patients, PLLA biostimulators can also be an excellent option following significant weight loss, helping to stimulate collagen production and gradually improve facial volume and skin quality over time.
For patients:
If weight loss has changed the way your face looks, you don’t have to just “accept it.” Thoughtful treatment can restore balance while still looking completely like you.

The GDC hasn’t banned dentists from facial aesthetics — but the rules have tightened. Here’s what you need to know. 👇
In November 2025, the GDC updated its Scope of Practice guidance. No change to scope — but a significant shift in expectations around competence and accountability.
Here’s what the guidance now makes clear:
✅ Your registration does not make you automatically competent for every procedure
✅ You must be appropriately trained, competent, and indemnified
✅ Professional judgement is your responsibility — not a box-ticking exercise
This is especially relevant if you’re providing:
— Botulinum toxin
— Dermal fillers (particularly in high-risk areas)
— Treatments under remote prescribing arrangements
To practise safely and defensibly, you need:
📋 Verifiable, up-to-date training
📋 Robust consent processes
📋 Complication management protocols
📋 Indemnity that explicitly covers aesthetics
The direction of travel from regulators is clear — greater governance, greater patient safety.
If you’re already practising ethically, this is about tightening your systems — not stepping back from aesthetics.
Work within your competence. Use professional judgement. Put patients first.
