As a massage therapist, I spend a lot of my working day in silence.

Not awkward silence.
Not empty silence.

A different kind of silence.

The kind where you notice everything.
Someone’s breathing slowing down.
Their shoulders finally softening.
The moment their body starts letting go a little.

And somewhere in all of that quiet… you also spend a lot of time with your own thoughts too.

There’s something really grounding about this work.
Hours away from noise, rushing around, phones constantly going off and the pressure of everyday life.

Just presence.
Human connection.
Energy.
Calm.

Sometimes I think the treatment room is one of the only places people truly allow themselves to stop.

Clients often say:
“I didn’t realise how much I needed that.”

But honestly, therapists feel it too.

Because whilst we’re holding space for others, this work teaches us patience, awareness and how to slow down ourselves.
You learn to listen without words.

In a world where everybody seems constantly switched on, distracted or rushing onto the next thing…
there’s something really special about simply being present with another human being for a while.

One of the things clients apologise for most during a massage is falling asleep… 😴

Please don’t.

Honestly, as therapists, we know what that usually means.

It means your body has finally stopped bracing.
Your mind has quietened for a little while.
Your nervous system has realised it’s safe enough to let go.

And for many people, that feeling of safety and rest is incredibly rare.

So many of you move through life carrying far more than anyone realises.
Work stress.
Family worries.
Sleepless nights.
Constant overthinking.
Being the strong one for everyone else while quietly running on empty yourselves.

Sometimes you come in thinking you just have “tight shoulders” or “a bad back”…

But your body is often holding onto so much more than physical tension.

Then, little by little during the treatment, we notice the shift…
Your breathing slows.
Your jaw softens.
Your shoulders begin to drop.
The muscles stop fighting to stay guarded.

And sometimes… you drift off.

Not because you’re rude.
Not because you’re lazy.
But because your body is tired, and for the first time in a while, it feels safe enough to truly rest.

Some people wake up and say:
“I’m so sorry, I think I fell asleep.”

But secretly?
That’s often when we know the massage was exactly what your body needed most

Choosing the playlist for each client is honestly part of the treatment for me

As a sound therapist, I’m probably more aware than most of how deeply sound can affect the body, emotions and nervous system. The music in the room isn’t just background noise to me… it’s part of the experience.

I always tune into the client, the energy and the treatment before I even begin.

Some mornings start with me banging my drum, tinkling chimes around the room and clearing the energy before my first client arrives. Other days it’s ambient jazz, soft instrumentals, healing frequencies or sacred music from around the world.

Recently I’ve been trialling different genres with my returning clients and the feedback has been lovely

Yesterday I popped my AirPods in and went for a walk through the woods before starting my day, listening to The White Album by The Beatles — especially some of the more experimental tracks. I found myself completely fascinated by the layers of sound, how music can shift emotion, memory, mood and even the way the body physically feels.

That’s the thing with sound…
it reaches places words sometimes can’t.

Some clients need uplifting energy.
Some need grounding.
Some need softness and stillness.
Some need music that helps them emotionally exhale after carrying the weight of the world all week.

So yes… I absolutely have 1000’s of playlists on my Spotify
But when somebody melts into the bed, breathes deeper and their whole body softens within minutes… I know the ambience has done its job 🎶

If this happens during your massage… don’t ignore it ✨

Sometimes during a treatment your body starts responding in ways you may not expect…

A stomach gurgling.
A deep sigh.
Your breathing slowing down.
Muscles twitching or suddenly softening.
Feeling heavy, sleepy or emotionally overwhelmed for no obvious reason.

These are often signs that the nervous system is beginning to shift out of stress mode and into a more restorative state.

When the body finally feels safe enough to soften, the vagus nerve — one of the body’s main calming pathways — can become more active. This helps support:
✨ slower breathing
✨ muscle relaxation
✨ emotional release
✨ digestion
✨ better sleep
✨ a deeper sense of calm

Sometimes the body has been holding tension and protective patterns for so long that finally letting go can feel emotional, physical or deeply tiring.

Sometimes it simply looks like:
🤍 your shoulders dropping
🤍 your jaw unclenching
🤍 your breathing deepening
🤍 your mind becoming quieter
🤍 your body remembering how to rest again

This is why massage is never “just a massage.” ✨

The suboccipital muscles are a small group of deep muscles that sit right at the base of the skull… but they do a much bigger job than most people realise.

They help support the head, guide movement, balance and posture, but they’re also closely connected to the nervous system.

When we’re stressed, anxious, overwhelmed or constantly “on alert”, this area often tightens without us even noticing.

Think about it…

• jaw clenching
• shallow breathing
• shoulders creeping upwards
• headaches behind the eyes
• tension at the top of the neck
• feeling unable to fully switch off

A lot of this can show up around the suboccipital muscles.

These muscles are rich in nerve receptors and closely linked to how the body senses safety, position and tension. When they stay tight for long periods, the body can remain stuck in a low-level stress response.

This is why during your treatments, you’ll often notice I spend time working around the base of the skull, neck and scalp area.

Not just because it “feels nice”…
but because releasing this area can help the whole body soften.

Sometimes clients don’t even realise how much tension they’re holding there until it starts to let go.

You may notice:
✨ deeper breathing
✨ heaviness leaving the head
✨ the jaw softening
✨ feeling calmer or sleepy
✨ the nervous system finally dropping out of “fight or flight” mode

Massage isn’t just about muscles.

Sometimes it’s about reminding the body that it is safe enough to let go.

I’ve had quite a few questions recently about microneedling, especially from women wanting to improve their skin but still keep things looking natural ✨

For me, it’s not about chasing perfection.
It’s more about helping your skin look fresher, healthier, smoother and more glowy again.

Microneedling works by encouraging your skin to repair and renew itself naturally by stimulating collagen production.

It can help with:
✨ dull or tired looking skin
✨ acne scarring
✨ fine lines
✨ uneven texture
✨ overall skin glow & firmness

And honestly… one of my favourite things is seeing that fresh, dewy glow afterwards 🤍

Like all my treatments, I keep things calm, relaxed and personalised to you.

If you’ve been thinking about trying it, feel free to message me and I’ll happily chat things through with you.

You get used to carrying it.
Pushing through.
Holding it together.
Ignoring the signals your body keeps sending.

But stress stored in the body has a way of showing up eventually…
Tension. Fatigue. Anxiety. Poor sleep. Irritability. Feeling disconnected from yourself.

Sometimes your body isn’t asking for more pressure.
It’s asking for safety, softness, rest & release.

This is your reminder that slowing down is not weakness.
It’s regulation.

Ritual Facial ✨
Awaken. Balance. Glow

Indulge in a deeply restorative experience designed to nourish your skin and soften tension held within the body.

This is more than a facial… it’s a slow, intentional ritual.

Gentle steam and warm towels begin to open the skin, inviting release. Hot and cold stones move in a calming rhythm, helping to ease facial tension, boost circulation, and awaken your natural glow.

To complete your treatment, a soothing scalp massage allows the mind to quiet, the body to soften, and the nervous system to fully unwind.

You’ll leave feeling hydrated, lighter, and deeply relaxed… with skin that looks fresh, radiant, and revived.

Perfect for when your skin feels tired, your body feels heavy, or you simply need time to pause and be cared for.

Sometimes I have to pause and really take this in 🫶🏼

Receiving words like this means more than I can explain.

Creating a space where you can walk in, leave the world outside, and simply be… that’s always my intention. A room that feels safe. Calm. Unrushed. A moment where everything is about you.

As women especially, we’re so used to putting ourselves last. So when someone tells me they’ve already booked their next session because they finally allowed themselves that time — it honestly fills my heart.

Thank you for trusting me with your wellbeing. Thank you for choosing to prioritise yourself. And thank you for taking the time to share your experience. 🤍

“All I can say is WOW. The whole experience was fantastic, the treatment offer I had was just what I needed. Started looking to book another massage session for the end of March. From when you walk in everything is about you, you can’t help but leave any worries outside the door and the room is set up to make you relax and enjoy quality time for yourself. As women this is something most of us don’t tend to take time out for ourselves. I highly recommend it. Thank you. See you next month”

A little question for you 🤍

What’s one simple self-care practice you do daily or weekly that truly helps you look after your body and supports long-term wellbeing?

It can be something small, gentle, or affordable, from nervous system care to body rituals, rest practices or anything that helps you feel more supported in your body.

I’d love to hear what works for you
Your ideas may inspire others too ✨
