Many people invest heavily in skincare products expecting long term improvement, yet continue to struggle with acne, pigmentation, sensitivity, or inflammation. This is often because surface level treatments do not address the internal factors that influence skin health.

At NA Skin clinic, we take a functional dermatology approach that focuses on identifying root causes such as gut imbalance, hormonal fluctuations, inflammation, and skin barrier disruption. Each patient receives a fully personalised skin programme designed to support both internal and external skin health.

Instead of one off consultations, we work through structured treatment plans that may include medical grade skincare, nutritional support, supplements, and regenerative aesthetic treatments that improve skin quality naturally over time.

If you are looking for a more comprehensive approach to your skin concerns, book a consultation at our Clinic to begin your personalised skin journey.

Melasma is not simply a skin deep condition.

Melasma develops when pigment producing cells become overactive, but in many people there are internal factors that continue to drive this process. While sun exposure and visible light are well known triggers, they are often only part of the picture.

A functional approach looks beyond the pigment itself and asks why it developed in the first place.

Potential contributing factors may include:
• Hormonal changes or hormonal imbalance
• Chronic inflammation
• Oxidative stress
• Gut health and the microbiome
• Nutrient deficiencies
• Poor skin barrier function
• UV exposure, visible light, and heat

This does not mean every person with melasma has all of these issues, but identifying individual triggers can help create a more personalised treatment plan.

Treatment should focus on both reducing pigment production and supporting the body’s internal environment. This may include targeted skincare, optimising skin barrier health, improving nutrition, addressing lifestyle factors, investigating hormonal influences where appropriate, and supporting overall skin health from within.

Melasma is a chronic condition, not a quick fix. The aim is not just to fade the pigmentation temporarily but to reduce the factors that may be encouraging it to return.

Treat the skin, but do not forget to look beneath the surface.

Dealing with rough bumps, congestion, or persistent breakouts?

Two ingredients that can be particularly helpful are salicylic acid and niacinamide.

Salicylic acid penetrates into the pores, helping to remove excess oil and dead skin cells while reducing congestion and supporting clearer skin.

Niacinamide helps regulate oil production, supports the skin barrier, and can reduce inflammation and redness.

No single ingredient is a cure all, and improvements usually take time. Consistent use alongside a skincare routine that supports the skin barrier is often key to achieving long term results.

If you are struggling with rosacea or eczema, less is often more. Over-cleansing strips your natural oils and disrupts the microbiome. Switch to a gentle, non-foaming cleanser to preserve your skin barrier and reduce redness. Ready to heal your skin from the inside out? Book your enquiry call at https://drnadia-abuhussein.com/

I founded this clinic because I saw too many patients trapped in a cycle of 'quick fix' creams. My approach combines medical dermatology with functional medicine to address the root causes like gut health and hormones. We don't just treat the symptom; we treat the person. Acne rarely disappears overnight.

Even when your skin looks clearer, the underlying factors that contributed to acne may still be present. Hormones, inflammation, skin barrier dysfunction, genetics, and even gut health can all continue to influence breakouts long after the spots have faded.

This is why acne management is a process, not a quick fix. Sustainable results often require consistency, patience, and addressing the root causes rather than simply treating what appears on the surface.

Clear skin is rarely a straight line. There will be ups and downs, but long term skin health is always worth the journey.

Accutane (isotretinoin) can be life changing for many people with acne, but it is also extremely drying and can significantly impact the skin barrier.

A healthy skin barrier helps retain moisture, protects against irritants, and supports the skin microbiome. During treatment, reduced oil production can leave the skin feeling tight, flaky, sensitive, and more prone to irritation.

If you’re taking Accutane, this is not the time for harsh scrubs, excessive exfoliation, or layering multiple active ingredients. Instead, focus on supporting your skin with gentle cleansing, barrier repairing ingredients such as ceramides and glycerin, and adequate sun protection.

Remember, managing acne is not just about reducing breakouts. Supporting skin health throughout treatment is equally important.
