She had been waiting for this moment for what felt like forever!
Not because she wanted to look like someone else.
Not because she was chasing perfection.
She’d just turned 18 and, like so many girls her age, she had spent months saying, “The minute I’m old enough, I’m getting my lips done.”
Now, here’s the part I actually respected so much about this story…
Her mum didn’t really want her to have them done.
But she also knew her daughter well enough to know she was probably going to do it anyway.
And instead of risking her going somewhere cheap, unsafe, or ending up with a result she’d regret, she made one condition:
“If you’re doing it, you’re going to Sophie.”
Honestly? I think that says a lot.
Because whether you personally love aesthetics or not, safe practice, good judgement, and natural results should always come first — especially with younger clients having their very first treatment.
Her mum surprised her with a voucher as a birthday gift, and from that moment on she was counting down the days.
Then came the message:
“Any chance you can squeeze me in today? I’ve got my party this weekend and I want to show them off.”
And in true determined-18-year-old fashion… she may or may not have skived off college for the afternoon to make it happen 😬
What I loved most about this appointment wasn’t just the result itself — it was her excitement. The nervous giggles before we started. The constant mirror checks after. The confidence boost when she saw the final result.
And this is exactly why subtle, well-balanced lip enhancement matters.
Not overdone.
Not exaggerated.
Just soft, fresh, confidence-boosting results that still feel completely like you.
Because treatments like this should never be about changing your face.
They should simply enhance what’s already there and help you feel that little bit more confident in yourself.
Safe to say she left very happy… and very ready for that party.

I genuinely think lighting has caused more emotional damage to women than ageing itself
I swear the changing room mirror in Zara looks like it was designed by someone who actively hates women?
Why are the lights overhead like an interrogation room?
And don’t even get me started on the front camera
Specifically the 0.5 lens
Who approved that?
Because I refuse to believe that’s an accurate representation of ANY human face
The times I’ve accidentally opened the front camera and physically recoiled…
Or caught myself on FaceTime from a weird angle and thought,
“Well. That’s upsetting”
And the scary part is, we are seeing ourselves like this constantly now
Distorted angles
Close-up HD cameras that pick up things you'd never notice in real life
Filters smoothing everyone else into poreless perfection while you’re sat under your bathroom light wondering why you look exhausted
It’s relentless
Half the things people panic about aren’t even visible in real life
But because we constantly see ourselves in the worst possible conditions, we start believing that’s reality
And honestly?
I think so many women believe they’re “ageing badly” when actually they’re just exhausted from overanalysing themselves
But listen — this isn’t me saying insecurities aren’t real
Sometimes we do notice changes
Sometimes we do feel tired, less fresh, less like ourselves
But there’s a huge difference between natural ageing…
and the completely unrealistic visual expectations women are now holding themselves against every single day
You were never meant to examine your face under a ring light at 11pm after a stressful week and use that as evidence of your worth or compare your real skin to someone else’s filtered highlight reel
And you are definitely not supposed to judge yourself based on the front camera when you accidentally open it from below your chin
So before you panic about every tiny thing your phone camera has convinced you is a catastrophe…
Breathe
Step outside
Look at yourself in natural light
Look at how people actually see you when you laugh, speak, smile
Because I promise you this:
Most women are being far harder on themselves than reality ever is

Nobody really talks honestly about what long-term stress does to women. Not dramatic breakdown-level stress.
Just years of constantly being needed.
You can always tell when someone’s been carrying too much for too long because they slowly disappear from themselves in really small ways first.
They stop wearing clothes they actually love and start wearing whatever’s easiest.
They stop getting in photos.
They tie their hair up every day because they “can’t be bothered.”
They become the kind of woman who says things like:
“I used to make more effort.”
And the strange part is everyone around them still thinks they’re doing completely fine because they’re functioning perfectly.
That’s the problem with capable women. The more competent you are, the less anyone notices you’re exhausted.
You still go to work.
You still answer messages.
You still organise everybody’s life.
You still show up for everyone else.
But somewhere in the middle of all that, you stop feeling connected to yourself.
And honestly, I think that’s why women care about aesthetics more than people realise.
Not because they’re trying to become somebody else.
Usually because they’ve spent so long surviving that they just want to look in the mirror and feel like themselves again.
So if you ready to stop living in survival mode and start recognising who's looking back at you in the car visor between mad dash appointments, drop us a message

I used to sunbathe constantly when I was younger.
Baby oil on.
No SPF.
Absolutely convinced I looked healthier with a tan.
And honestly?
Back then, it felt normal.
No one was talking about UV damage, premature ageing, pigmentation, or skin cancer risks the way we do now.
Because when you’re young, future consequences don’t feel real yet.
Until one day… they are.
You notice the sun spots.
The uneven skin tone.
The lines that seem deeper overnight.
The skin that suddenly looks tired no matter how much sleep you get.
And for some people, the consequences become far more serious than aesthetics.
Because May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and it’s such an important reminder that protecting your skin is about so much more than anti-ageing.
Skin cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide, and years of repeated UV exposure quietly build damage beneath the surface long before we see it.
That’s why I speak about SPF so much now.
And if I could speak to my younger self, I’d tell her:
Protect your skin.
Drink more water.
Go home earlier.
Stop thinking burnt skin looks healthy.
And wear the SPF every single day.
Even when it’s cloudy.
Even when it’s cold.
Even in the middle of a British rainstorm.
Which is exactly why our Derma Advanced Daily Defence SPF has become such a staple in clinic.
Lightweight, breathable, perfect under makeup, and designed for daily protection against UV damage and premature ageing.
And because prevention matters, we also offer a mole mapping service in clinic to help monitor changes in your skin and provide extra peace of mind.
Because protecting your skin isn’t just about looking younger.
It’s about looking after your health too.
Message us or pop into clinic to grab your Daily Defence SPF or find out more about mole mapping.

There’s just something about skincare on holiday, isn’t there?
The slow mornings.
The iced coffee.
The sun hitting the balcony.
Your favourite products lined up beside you while the rest of the world finally feels quiet for a minute.
And honestly?
Nothing looks better sitting on a hotel balcony than our Derma Advanced travel packs.
Not just because they’re aesthetic (although they absolutely are)… but because they make taking care of your skin while travelling feel effortless.
No overpacked skincare bags.
No leaking bottles.
No sacrificing your routine because you’re living out of a suitcase for a week.
Just simple, effective skin protection on the go.
And with May being Skin Cancer Awareness Month, it feels like the perfect time to remind people that skincare doesn’t stop when you go on holiday.
In fact, it matters even more.
Because while holidays are where memories are made, they’re also where so much skin damage happens.
Long days in the sun.
Forgotten SPF top-ups.
That “just one day won’t matter” mindset we’ve all had before.
But the truth is, protecting your skin daily is one of the most important things you can do — not just for ageing, pigmentation, and skin quality, but for your overall skin health too.
That’s why our travel packs are designed to make protection easy.
Just skincare that works wherever you are in the world.
Because healthy skin should travel with you.
So whether you’re heading abroad, planning a weekend away, or simply wanting a more manageable routine this summer, our Derma Advanced travel packs are the perfect companion for skin protection on the go.
And trust me — they look very good on a hotel balcony too.
Message us or pop into clinic to get yours before your next trip.

One of the most annoying things about getting older as a woman is realising most of the stuff they sell us is complete bu****it!
You buy the creams, the serums, the overnight miracle masks with names that sound like they were generated by AI.
Everyone online is layering seventeen products before bed looking like a glazed doughnut under LED lighting.
And still your face changes anyway.
Your eyes start looking more tired even when you’ve slept. Your makeup suddenly looks weird and you can’t work out why.
One day you catch yourself lifting your phone higher on FaceTime and realise you’ve become every woman over 35 without meaning to.
And honestly I think the irritating part is nobody speaks about it normally!
You’re either supposed to become one of those women pretending aging is this magical spiritual experience where you transcend vanity completely, or you go the opposite way and start panic-ordering every treatment on the internet trying to look 26 forever.
Most women are obviously somewhere in the middle.
You don’t want to look younger than everyone else.
You just want your face to calm down a bit.
So before you bulk buy all the latest TIKTok products or panic book an online face lift consultation with a clinic in Turkey at 2am while doom scrolling, book a consultation in with me. We can talk about all the issues, cut the crap and come up with a safe and calm plan together
