Some waxers sigh when you ask something twice. That’s not confidence, that’s a red flag with good lighting.

I’m Tracey, Intimate Wax and Advanced Ingrown Hair Specialist here in Milton Keynes. Over 20 years in, the clients I worry about aren’t the ones asking too much. They’re the ones who’ve stopped asking because a past waxer made them feel stupid for it.

Ask why it hurt more this time than last time. Ask why one spot bled a little when the others didn’t. A waxer who actually knows the job answers both without flinching, because neither is new to them.

If yours changes the subject or makes you feel like a nuisance for asking, that’s not you being difficult. That’s them not being good enough at their job.

What question did a past waxer make you feel silly for asking?

How many appointments have you cancelled purely because you talked yourself into thinking waxing was unbearable?

Here’s the actual timeline. The strip comes off, there’s a flash of heat, and it’s done. That’s genuinely the whole event, not a build up and not an aftermath, just one second.

Where it goes wrong is technique, not tolerance. A rushed pull, wax that didn’t grab everything the first time so you get re-pulled over the same bit of skin, someone working against the direction of hair growth because they’re moving too fast. That’s what turns one uncomfortable second into five. It’s rarely the client’s pain threshold that’s the problem.

I’ve been doing intimate waxing in Milton Keynes for over twenty years now, specialising in advanced ingrown hair work, and the number of people who’ve avoided their first appointment because of this exact myth still catches me off guard.

What’s a myth that kept you away from something for way longer than it should have?

“Just breathe through it, we’re nearly done.”

If you’ve ever heard that after asking someone to stop, you already know what it does to you. I’ve had clients apologise to me for asking me to stop. Actually apologise, like they’d done something wrong.

I’m Tracey, an Intimate Wax and Advanced Ingrown Hair Specialist in Milton Keynes with over 20 years doing this properly, and stop has never once been optional in my treatment room.

Do you think male and female intimate waxing videos should be seen any differently? They’re both showing the anatomy of the relevant gender, showing exactly how the treatment is carried out.

I’m Tracey, an Intimate Wax and Advanced Ingrown Hair Specialist in Milton Keynes with over 20 years in the industry. A treatment video is not soft p**n. It’s a demonstration of technique and process, the same as any other clinical footage.

For someone who’s never been waxed before, watching an actual treatment can be one of the most useful things you show them. It answers the questions people are usually too nervous to ask, like what the wax actually looks like going on, or how an awkward angle gets handled. Seeing it removes so much of the fear that comes from not knowing, and that fear is often the real reason people put waxing off for years.

“Shock factor” gets thrown around a lot, but I think it’s more subjective than people admit. For me, context is what matters. If a treatment is offered professionally and shown in a respectful, educational way, I don’t see it as shock content, whatever the anatomy involved. For example, if a video shows a female treatment done well, and the same treatment shown on a male client, I’d view them exactly the same way. The gender of the client doesn’t change whether something is legitimate or educational. A lot of the reaction people have is really about seeing something they’re not used to, not about the content actually being inappropriate.

Genuinely curious, if one of these makes you more uncomfortable than the other, why do you think that is?

This is a question men are too embarrassed to ask before they book, so let’s answer it properly.

What happens if you have an involuntary physical response during a wax? I’m not going to beat around the bush, I’ll tell you exactly what your waxer should and shouldn’t be doing when it happens.

It is a nerve reflex. The area is dense with nerve endings and they respond to pressure and touch, full stop, that is how bodies work. It has nothing to do with attraction and everything to do with anatomy.

I’m Tracey, an Intimate Wax & Advanced Ingrown Hair Specialist in Milton Keynes, with over 20 years in this industry.

A properly trained practitioner does not stop, does not comment, and does not make it a thing. That is the standard.

If your waxer cannot handle a normal bodily reaction professionally, book somewhere else.

“It’s just your skin type.” That’s what gets said, and then the conversation stops there.

Because it rarely is the whole story.

Coarse or curly hair curls back into the follicle more easily as it regrows. So some skin really is more prone to ingrowns, that part’s true.

But prone isn’t a life sentence. I’m Tracey, an Intimate Wax and Advanced Ingrown Hair Specialist working in Milton Keynes for over 20 years now, and the right prep and aftercare change how that skin behaves.

More often, nobody looked closely at technique or aftercare before “skin type” got said. It’s the answer that needs the least explaining.

Prone, not powerless. Follow along if you want to know exactly what to expect before, during and after so there are no surprises.

What’s the quickest excuse a waxer’s ever given you?

Most waxers will tell you which aftercare is best. I decided to actually check.

For ten weeks I tracked eight clients across seven professional aftercare brands, all photographed, all compared side by side. No sponsorship, no favourites picked in advance. I’m Tracey, Intimate Wax & Advanced Ingrown Hair Specialist in Milton Keynes, and after 20+ years doing this job I got tired of hearing opinions dressed up as facts.

The results are now published in Professional Beauty magazine. Not because I needed the credit, but because clients deserve to know what actually works on their skin, not just what smells nice in the tub.

Which aftercare product have you been told is “the best” without anyone ever proving it?

The scariest waxer isn’t the rough one. It’s the one who’s never once asked what you’re taking.

I’m Tracey, an Intimate Wax & Advanced Ingrown Hair Specialist based in Milton Keynes with over 20 years of experience.

Roaccutane thins the skin so much it can lift straight off with the wax strip. Blood thinners mean you’ll bruise like you’ve walked into a door, not just gone for a wax. Steroid creams weaken the skin barrier so quietly you’d never notice until it’s too late.

Diabetes, eczema, psoriasis and autoimmune conditions all change how your skin heals, and none of that stays the same forever. What was fine for you last year might not be fine now.

I ask every client, every single visit. Not because I’ve forgotten your answer from last time, but because your body doesn’t send me a memo when something changes. Thirty seconds of questions is the difference between a good wax and a skin injury I could have avoided.

Follow for more green flags worth checking for.

Be honest, has your waxer ever actually asked you this?
