🛠️ Driveway Dipping? Not on our watch!
Part 2 of the driveway restoration is officially in the books. This phase was all about the foundation. We’ve been digging deep into why the surface started sinking in the first place, and the culprit? Hidden hollows beneath the bricks. 🕳️
Here’s the breakdown of how we’re fixing it for good:
• Foundation First: Used sub-layer rocks to bridge the deep dips and slab-layer ready-mix for a rock-solid, leveled base.
• The “Puzzle” Method: We’re pulling this apart piece-by-piece. It’s slower, but it keeps the mess down and ensures the original pattern stays perfect. 🧩
• The Details: Manholes are the ultimate test of patience! We took extra time to ensure the edges are seamless and reinforced.
• The Fix: Every hollow we found was filled and compacted to prevent future sinking.
We’re about 95% of the way there... but there’s one section that’s giving us a run. 😅

It costs £2k on average to redo a driveway if you hire the pros—and I bet they’d do a much better job than me! 😂 But it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t have a go at it myself.
So, my next project is the driveway! 😎🦾
We’ve spent just over £50 in Wickes so far for the sublayer and slab-layer mix. 1/3 of the job is complete, we’re out of materials, and we’ve put about 4 hours into it. Time for another Wickes trip to top up and get back to it!
The strategy? Working in chunks. We pull apart a section, then relay that section. It keeps the pattern intact, avoids making a massive mess, and means we can stop whenever we need to.
