This morning’s litter pick was along Waterville Road, from the roundabout, past the school and under the railway bridge. The amount of rubbish on what is quite a short stretch of road was bad …. and when we say bad, we mean absolutely horrendous🤮 The fact that so much rubbish has greeted little ‘uns as they’ve gone to and from school made it feel particularly sad 😢

An hour and a half of hard core litter picking by Carol, Germaine and Diane - and for now, at least, the road is litter free! Let’s all try to keep it that way, folks! 😀

We are used to seeing Marks & Spencer as a giant of the high street, but did you know the company’s oldest and smallest shop is still right here in Newcastle?

Hidden away in the Grainger Market is a true piece of retail history.

Opened in 1895, this tiny stall is the last surviving "Penny Bazaar" in the world. It dates back to the very origins of the brand, when Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer set up market stalls with the famous slogan: "Don’t ask the price, it’s a penny."

While the prices have definitely changed since Victorian times, the shop front hasn't. It still keeps its original "Penny Bazaar" branding and gold lettering, serving customers exactly as it did over 130 years ago.
