🌼🌿🌱 Detox -What It Really Means (and What It Doesn’t)

Sunmer is here and with it, your social media feed is likely to be flooded with “quick fix” detoxes.

Juice cleanses, miracle teas, and extreme restrictions are bound to pop up, promising to “cleanse” your body in days. But let’s pause for a second and break down what detoxification really is, what it isn’t, and who genuinely needs support with it.

🍃Detox: More Than a Buzzword

“Detox” has become such a trendy term that it’s lost much of its original meaning. It’s often mistaken for a few days of green juices, pricey supplements, or starving your body in the hope of feeling better. In reality, detoxification is a natural, ongoing process your body performs every single second provided it has the right support. And that’s the key word: support.

🍃So, What Is Detoxification?

Detoxification is your body’s way of processing and eliminating harmful substances, both from external sources (like pollution, pesticides, heavy metals, plastics, food additives) and internal ones (such as hormones, metabolic by-products, or gut bacteria).

Your liver, kidneys, skin, lungs and lymphatic system all work together to keep things moving efficiently. The liver, in particular, carries out detox in two main phases.

But when the first phase is overactive and the second sluggish, it can lead to a build-up of harsh intermediate toxins. That’s when you may notice fatigue, headaches, water retention, skin flare-ups, PMS, or more serious hormonal imbalances.

🍃What Does Real Detox Support Look Like?

For your detox systems to function properly, they need:

🍃Antioxidants like glutathione, vitamins A, C, and E, zinc, and selenium.

🍃Refined sugar and alcohol.
🍃Plastic containers and anything with BPA.
🍃Conventional cosmetics with parabens, phthalates, or synthetic perfumes.
🍃Non-stick or aluminium cookware, especially when heated.

🍫TAHINI BROWNIES

Perfect for your luteal phase, these tahini brownies are not only super tasty but will give you a nourishing boost of iron, magnesium and healthy fats.

You'll need:
1 cup tahini
1/2 cup maple syrup
2 eggs
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup chocolate chips
Optional: sesame and sunflower seeds for topping

Method:

Whisk together your tahini, maple syrup, eggs, and vanilla in a bowl.
Add the cocoa powder, baking soda and salt once it thickens a bit, and then continue mixing until smooth.

Add the melted chocolate chips to your batter and mix together. Spread it onto some parchment paper in your baking pan and sprinkle seeds and salt. Pop in the oven (pre-heated at 180°C) for around 25mins.

Pain is processed by the brain, but the brain itself has no pain receptors and does not feel pain.

The brain processes social rejection in a similar way to physical pain.

It is not the size or weight of the brain that determines intelligence, but the density of neurons and synapses.

There is a protective barrier that shields the brain from foreign substances; however, ni****ne can cross it in just 7 seconds, and alcohol in about 6 minutes.

The brain is approximately 73% water. A dehydration level of only 2% is enough to affect attention, memory, and other cognitive abilities.

Lipids (fats) make up about 60% of the brain’s solid matter. The brain is the fattiest organ in the human body.

Cholesterol is an integral part of every neuron. Around 25% of the body’s total cholesterol is found in the brain. Without adequate cholesterol, brain cells cannot survive.

A lack of oxygen to the brain for 5–10 minutes can cause permanent damage.

There is also a “second brain” located in the gastrointestinal system. Although it communicates constantly with the brain, it is so complex that it can function independently.

🙏Tonight I’m grateful for a sound bath meditation a moment of stillness, and a body that continues to carry me through life.

Lately, I’ve been reminded that health isn’t something to wait until we lose before we appreciate it. The ability to breathe deeply, rest, move, think, hug our children, or simply soak in a bath after a long day are all gifts we often overlook.

Sometimes the greatest form of self-care isn’t fixing, improving or striving for more. It’s pausing long enough to appreciate what is already working.

Tonight, I’m choosing gratitude for this body, this moment, and the chance to slow down. ✨🛁
