Colour so nice, I’ve posted it twice😉

So I had an epiphany.

A few months back I was questioning my abilities and wondering if after the best part of 15 years this career was even for me.
I was constantly finding flaws in my work. Not the clients, not my peers, me.
I had a really quiet day in the salon and I decided that was the perfect time to reset. I rearranged stock cleared out cupboards and really deep cleaned my tools and equipment. It took me back to training, back to basics.
I realised I had gotten sucked into the black hole of social media🙄. I was watching amazing stylists do incredible work with skills and techniques I’ve never tried. I attempted to replicate work on the wrong hair without even realising. I forgot that no one’s hair is the same, it’s not linear, it’s tailored to each individual person.
I always thought basic techniques were outdated ones (they can be) but, every stylist has their own way of performing basic techniques and I had forgotten that is exactly what had happened to me. My skill wasn’t outdated, it was just different to the icons we see on social media and that’s okay.

The moral of the story? Don’t tell yourself you need to be like others in order to be better sometimes being you is the best you can be.
I feel like that may be a rendition of a Dr Seuss quote but it applies here anyway😂
