Upright, land, hospital birth. Love this, utilising all the tools & letting gravity do its thing✨

One of the most Googled signs of labour is the show.

Yet, despite how common it is, lots of people reach the final weeks of pregnancy without really knowing what it means, what it looks like or when it happens.

Understanding the changes your body goes through before labour can make the whole experience feel far less overwhelming and help you feel more confident recognising what’s normal for you.

Did you experience a show? How was it for you? Let us know in the comments xx

Films (or instagram!) have this magical way of making everything seem perfect, but real life is not a movie and things may not go as smooth as they do on the big screen.

Giving birth and bringing life into the world comes with a lot of change in all areas of life, including your emotions.

If you’re not loving every minute of the newborn stage, there is nothing wrong with you. You’re going through a lot and it can take a while to adjust. If you are really struggling, please speak to a professional - a GP, your midwife or your doula. You
are not in this alone 🫶

After birth, the work for your body doesn’t stop there 🤍
Your uterus now needs to contract down from being big enough to hold your baby, placenta & amniotic fluid… back to its normal non pregnant size around the size of a pear 🍐 and tucked back inside your pelvis.

In the early days after birth, some people experience “after pains” cramp like pains caused by these uterine contractions. They can often feel stronger with each baby you have, and because they’re triggered by oxytocin release, they’re usually more noticeable whilst feeding your baby.

Top tips from Midwife Lily to help cope 👇
• Go for a wee before feeding baby
• Use a hot water bottle
• Try a TENS machine
• Birth comb/orbs
• Regular paracetamol/ ibuprofen

Your body is doing amazing healing work postpartum 💛
