Ghassoul or Rhassoul (Moroccan Arabic: الغاسول), is a natural mineral clay from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. It’s been mined and used since the 8th century, it is mixed with water to clean the body and has been used by Moroccan women for centuries to care for their skin and hair.
It is a clay that is widely used in Morocco as a soap, after a sauna or after scrubbing with a kess (moroccan hand mit) to remove dead cells.
The clay has been around for over 1400 years. It was formed under the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. Its name means “the mountain of the washer” in Arabic. Women living in those areas have long prized its protective, regenerative, and healing properties.
After mining, the clay is poured on the ground for drying. This exposes it to the sun and desert breezes, which enhance its healing power. Once dried, it's refined and micronized. It can be used as a pure clay mask, body wrap, shampoo, skin conditioner, or soap.
Today, the clay has emerged in the modern world as a powerful, toxin-free skincare product and hair treatment as well as a natural remedy for various ailments, although the women of Morocco have used it forever!
Research shows that a single use of Rhassoul clay can improve skin firmness by a whopping 24 per cent and skin clarity by 68 per cent. This toxin-free skincare product reduces dryness by as much as 79 per cent and flakiness by 41 per cent. When applied to the skin, it removes dead cells and excess sebum, which are major contributors to acne.
This all-natural clay is healthier alternative to soap, facial scrubs, and hair care products. Due to its fine texture, it's an excellent pure clay mask and matches all skin types. It's free of additives, preservatives, phthalates, and other chemicals found in skin and hair products.
