The lighter you want your silver hair to be and the darker your natural colour, the longer it will take to get to where you want to be colour-wise

Each visit to the salon will cost money. So make sure you understand exactly what you will spend.

The most confusing words “gloss” and “tone”

What is a gloss/tone, exactly? And do I need one?

So... when lightener gets put on the hair....any hair.....what you see is called the raw lift. Depending on about a million factors, this “raw lift” can be anywhere from red to orange to gold to yellow, and all similar colours in between. So how does your stylist counteract those warm tones? That’s where the gloss comes in. The gloss can either enhance the warm tone that’s already showing (for example, an orangey colour can be turned into a gorgeous copper or warm brown. Or a yellow blonde can be turned into a shimmering, golden or champagne blonde.)

Or on the flip side......if warm colours don’t make your heart sing, the gloss can neutralize the warmth instead. A yellow blonde can be tuned into icy or beige, depending on the starting level of brightness....or that harsh gold colour can be turned into a darker, cool-toned brown....like the example in the picture!

Glosses are generally a Semi permanent colour that is applied over the raw lift, and will fade over time. The less you wash your hair, the longer they last. Washing your hair in cold water can help them last a lot longer, too! Also, making sure you have healthy hair to start with is super important. The only thing glosses can’t do, is lift your hair to a brighter colour by themselves.
