Do you have Systemic Lupus, Sjögren’s syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis, or any other autoimmune condition? Do your symptoms flare up from time to time?
Do you know that…
💪🏻💪🏻 YOU ARE A HERO ❣️❣️
Getting up, moving, doing your daily tasks, taking care of your family, working, and simply getting through the day while living with pain 24/7 is incredibly brave.
Sometimes we all want to give up, but illness teaches us resilience and gives us the strength to keep going every day.
How can you support yourself?
🤘 Active lifestyle – Get out and move! A little movement is better than no movement, even if you’re feeling sore.
👍 Follow an anti-inflammatory diet.
☝🏻 Practise slow, somatic exercises to help regulate your nervous system.
✌🏻 Maintain proper fluid intake (approximately 500 ml per 10 kg of body weight).
👍 Engage in mindful activities to help shift out of “fight or flight” mode and reduce stress levels.
☝🏻 Consider nervous system-supportive complementary therapies such as:
🫶🏻 Massage (gentle, not deep-tissue modalities)
🫶🏻 Reflexology
🫶🏻 Naturopathy
🫶🏻 Homeopathy
🫶🏻 EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)
🫶🏻 Energy therapies
🫶🏻 Somatic restorative yoga
How can I support you?
As a Clinical Massage Therapist, I can work with your body, nervous system, and mind simultaneously using different modalities.
When your body is flaring up, gentle touch, passive slow somatic repetitive movements, fascial work, together with vagus nerve stimulation, reflex point therapy, and vibration therapy, can help your whole body feel lighter, almost like a flying feather.
All of my sessions are designed from both my personal experience and my clinical knowledge of living with Lupus and Sjögren’s syndrome. Some days are harder, and some days are easier, but one thing is certain…
❣️ Stepping away from the daily cycle of pain for even one or two hours can mean so much—especially if your pain eases for a few hours and your sleep improves, even for just one night. ❣️

❣️Cesarean section aftercare and rehabilitation in terms of Clinical Therapeutic Massage. ❣️
Three months ago, I gave birth to my beautiful son, and thirteen years ago, to my beautiful daughter. Both of my births ended in cesarean sections. 🥰
I experienced several complications and side effects during and after both procedures, which inspired me to share some information about the benefits of Clinical Massage in post-cesarean care.
For the remainder of this month, I will dedicate my posts to this important topic, offering extra information, guidance, and support to women who may be walking a similar path. I will discuss both common and less common post-operative symptoms and explain how Clinical Massage can help manage and alleviate them.
But first, here is some general information about C-sections. 👇🏻👇🏻
A cesarean section (C-section) is a major abdominal surgical procedure involving multiple tissue layers, including the skin, subcutaneous tissue, fascia, abdominal muscles, and uterus. Although most mothers recover well, the surgery can have long-term musculoskeletal, connective tissue, and functional consequences. Clinical Massage Therapy can play a significant role in rehabilitation, particularly through scar tissue mobilisation, pain reduction, improved circulation, and the restoration of normal movement patterns.
Although the initial recovery period may last approximately three to four months, some side effects can persist for several years. Recovery generally occurs in three phases:
1. Acute Postoperative Phase (0–6 weeks)
2. Subacute Phase (6–12 weeks)
3. Late Postoperative Phase (from 3 months onward)
What symptoms can occur during these phases?
• Surgical pain
• Swelling and oedema
• Pulling or burning sensations around the scar
• Restricted mobility
• Postural changes
• Slowed bowel function
• Difficulty bending forward
• Pain when lifting
• Discomfort during abdominal activation
• Sensory disturbances, including numbness, tingling, and hypersensitivity
• Scar adhesions and fascial dysfunction
• Lower back pain
• Hip tightness
• Pain around the shoulder blades
• Neck pain
• Abdominal muscle dysfunction and diastasis recti
• Pelvic floor dysfunction
• Increased lumbar lordosis
• Anterior pelvic tilt
• Rounded shoulders
• Increased thoracic kyphosis
The overall goals of Clinical Massage Treatment are to:
• Improve circulation
• Reduce oedema
• Decrease pain
• Support thrombosis prevention
• Facilitate early mobilisation
• Promote scar mobilisation
• Release adhesions and restore tissue glide
• Perform fascial release and connective tissue mobilisation
• Treat the hip and lumbar fascia
• Provide deeper scar treatment
• Apply myofascial release and mobilisation techniques
• Stimulate trigger points
• Use soft tissue techniques around the pelvis
• Mobilise the abdominal wall fascia
• Release the diaphragm
• Treat the lumbar musculature
• Support movement therapy
• Provide sensory stimulation and scar desensitisation
• Encourage gentle mobilisation
• Relax the muscles surrounding the pelvis
• Improve posture and postural alignment
A cesarean section is far more than a simple skin incision; it is a surgical intervention that can affect the functional integrity of the entire trunk and pelvic system. When appropriately timed and progressively applied, Clinical Massage Therapy can significantly contribute to optimal scar healing, pain reduction, prevention of adhesions, and restoration of musculoskeletal function.
Today I would like to share some information about the very rare condition, C-section related lymph oedema in lower limbs.
• Temporary impairment of lymphatic flow from the lower abdomen, pelvis, or legs
• Scar tissue compression near the lymphatic channels
• Post-operative infection
• Damage to or obstruction of lymphatic vessels
• Reduced mobility leading to slower circulation and impaired lymph flow
C-section-related lymphatic oedema is rare , but can be extremely painful and should always be assessed by a GP. In some cases, medication may also be necessary. Daily manual therapy can be highly effective in encouraging fluid movement and reducing inflammation. Through specific Clinical Massage techniques, symptoms can often improve significantly from day to day.
Interestingly, the precise cause of fluid retention is not always identifiable. The condition is commonly referred to as surgery-related unilateral or bilateral lower limb oedema, depending on whether one or both legs are affected.
What treatments may help?
Manual lymphatic drainage can be extremely beneficial when combined with reflex point therapy, kidney meridian stimulation, and active or passive mobilisation.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle, specialized massage aims to:
stimulate lymphatic vessels, redurect fluid toward healthy lymphatic pathways, reduce feelings of heaviness and tightness, improve tissue softness and comfort with, rhythmic strokes rather than deep massage. Deep tissue massage is generally not recommended over lymphedematous areas.
Fascia Distortion Techniques and scar treatment can also be valuable components of therapy.
During the wound-healing process, fascial adhesions may develop around the surgical site. These adhesions can restrict lymphatic flow and reduce hip mobility. As therapists, we should consider a combination of approaches, carefully tailored to the individual needs of each client, rather than relying on a single treatment method.
Elevation after the treatment and few times a day supports the flow as well and compression therapy also applicable.
