I’ve been noticing a big increase in appointments with children who struggle with having their haircut, so I thought it might be helpful to share a few tips that can make the experience feel a little easier and less overwhelming for both children and parents.

My aim is always to make every visit to the shop as calm, comfortable, and positive as possible. A little preparation beforehand can make a huge difference, so hopefully these tips help make future appointments a smoother experience for everyone ✂️

Tips for Helping Children Enjoy Their Haircut

Bring a clean top -
Bringing a fresh top for your child to change into after their haircut can really help. Loose hair can feel itchy and uncomfortable, and changing clothes afterwards often makes the rest of their day much easier and helps alleviate the association with haircuts the next time they have an appointment.

Manage expectations -
Please don’t expect a perfect haircut, especially if it’s your child’s first visit or if they’re feeling unsure. Sometimes the main goal of the first appointment is simply getting them familiar with the shop, the chair, and the experience itself.

Prepare them at home -
Talking about the haircut beforehand can help set expectations. Brushing or combing their hair at home lets them get used to the sensation and makes the process feel less unfamiliar.

Patience is important -
Haircuts take time and cooperation. While I have plenty of patience, nervous children often don’t. I’ll always do my best to achieve a tidy result, but a very sharp finish isn’t always possible if a child is unsettled or needs frequent breaks.

Bring comfort items -
Favourite toys, books, or a tablet can be a big help. Familiar items often provide comfort and distraction, helping your child feel more relaxed in the chair.

Be open to multiple visits -
Sometimes it takes more than one visit to complete a full haircut. If the first appointment ends with your child leaving happy and tear-free, that’s a positive step forward. Things usually get easier and smoother with each visit.

Children are still learning how to understand and communicate what’s bothering them. With patience, preparation, and support, haircuts can become a much more comfortable experience for everyone involved ☺️

Today marks a decade of Alpha Male Barbers. What started as a simple idea has turned into something I’m incredibly proud of — a place built on hard work, loyalty, laughs, and a lot of fresh cuts.

Just a gentle reminder to all the amazing parents out there — every child is different, and so is their haircut journey. ❤️

This little superstar has been visiting me for a while now, slowly building confidence with each visit. Sometimes it’s just a few snips and a smile, and that’s more than enough. No pressure to sit in the chair, no tears, just a calm space where they can feel safe and in control.

Today we nearly managed a full haircut in one go — and more importantly, he left with a happy heart. That’s the real goal 💇‍♂️💛

So please don’t worry if your little one isn’t ready to sit still or if it takes a few tries — they’re in safe hands, wherever they choose to sit. I’m here to go at their pace, always. 💕

We’ve got a new talent in the making!
I’m proud to introduce Christian, who has recently started training with me to become a barber. He’s passionate, eager to learn, and is putting in the work to perfect his skills.

As part of his journey, Christian is looking for models to help him gain hands-on experience with different styles and cuts. This is a great opportunity to support a future barber, get a fresh look, and be part of his learning story.

All cuts will be closely supervised by me to ensure quality and care.
