🧡For someone who struggles to relax, nearly falling asleep can be a very big deal.

L has been coming to Positive Roots for a few months now.

She lives with autoimmune conditions, and finding moments of genuine relaxation isn't always easy for her.

In fact, she's told me that she often struggles to fully relax when lying on a treatment bed. Even when she's there specifically to rest, switching off doesn't come naturally.

Over the past few months, we've been getting to know what works for her. Exploring different techniques, noticing what feels comfortable and discovering what she particularly enjoys.

And we've discovered something rather unexpected.

Gentle hair pulling during neck massage.

That lovely sensation of gentle traction through the hair has become one of her favourite parts of our sessions.

But today, something happened that made me smile...she nearly fell asleep.

For someone who usually finds it difficult to surrender to the experience, that was such a lovely moment.

She managed to let go..... and simply allow herself to enjoy being looked after.

And for me, that was the biggest compliment.

Because that's what I love about this work. It's not about delivering the same massage to every woman who walks through my door.

It's about listening, paying attention and discovering together what helps each person feel at ease.

Sometimes the most meaningful part of a treatment isn't what I do with my hands. It's the intimate moment someone finally feels comfortable enough to let go.

There’s nothing wrong with caring. Wanting to do things well. Being reliable. Having expectations of yourself and the people around you.

And, there’s a point where high standards can quietly turn into constant pressure.

The house could be better.
You could have done more.
You should have handled that differently.
They should have known better.
You should be more organised, more patient, more productive.

And suddenly, very little is allowed to simply be good enough.

I’ve been thinking lately about how tiring that must be for the body too.

Always correcting. Anticipating. Holding things together. Trying to make reality match the version we had in our heads.

Perhaps letting go isn’t lowering your standards.
Perhaps it’s occasionally deciding:

This is enough.
I’ve done enough.
This doesn’t need fixing today.
Not everything needs to be optimised.
Not every disappointment needs to be carried.

And not everything has to go exactly as you imagined for you to be okay.

Maybe your body would quite appreciate hearing that once in a while. 🧡
