Not all spots are acne… and treating them like acne can sometimes make things worse.
This client recently had a flare up of Perioral Dermatitis, a common inflammatory skin condition that often gets mistaken for acne, but requires a very different approach.
Rather than throwing active ingredients, exfoliants or harsh treatments at the skin, our focus was on calming, repairing and strengthening.
✨ Identifying and removing potential triggers
✨ Simplifying skincare back to the essentials
✨ Supporting and rebuilding the skin barrier
✨ Reducing inflammation and irritation
✨ Looking beyond the skin itself at factors such as stress, lifestyle and internal influences
Because skin doesn’t exist in isolation.
One of the biggest misconceptions about skin concerns is that the answer is always another product or treatment. In reality, the most effective approach is often understanding why the skin is reacting in the first place.
The before and after here wasn’t achieved with a quick fix facial. It was achieved through assessment, education, a personalised plan, consistency and giving the skin the support it needed to heal.
Now that the skin is calm, healthy and resilient, we can begin carefully reintroducing products and building a routine that supports long-term skin health.
This is exactly why I don’t just treat what I see on the surface. I treat the skin in front of me, the person attached to it, and the factors that may be contributing behind the scenes.
Because healthy skin is rarely about doing more. Often it’s about doing the right things, in the right order. 🤍

Many people believe they simply have “sensitive skin.”
And whilst some people are born with a predisposition to sensitivity, many are actually dealing with sensitised skin.
I’m currently studying Functional Skin Health, and that means we look at more than just the symptoms. We explore the factors that may be contributing to skin concerns and ask why the skin is behaving the way it is.
Things like stress, hormones, inflammation, a compromised skin barrier and even overuse of active ingredients can all play a role.
The good news?
Sensitised skin can often be improved by calming inflammation, supporting the skin barrier and addressing the underlying triggers.
Have a read through the carousel and let me know…
Do you think your skin is sensitive, or has it become sensitised over time? ⬇️

As a skin practitioner, people often assume I have perfect skin.
The reality is my skin changed significantly in my late 30s and early 40s. I developed rosacea, became more reactive, and had to learn how to look after my skin without flaring my rosacea up
The improvements in these photos didn’t come from a miracle product, a super complicated routine or the latest skincare trend.
They came from understanding my skin, working on reducing inflammation, supporting my barrier and being consistent.
Healthy skin isn’t built by doing more.
It’s built by doing the right things consistently, for your skin.
If you’re ready to improve your skin by understanding it—not overwhelming it—send me a DM with the word RESET and let’s talk about what your skin really needs ❤️
I did a thing… 🤓
I’ve officially started my Functional Skin Health training.
The more I learn about skin, the more fascinated I become by the “why” behind it. Why some people can do all the right things and still struggle with concerns like inflammation, sensitivity, pigmentation or breakouts.
I’m excited to deepen my knowledge and explore skin health from a wider perspective so I can better support my clients.
I’ll be sharing what I learn along the way and, over the coming weeks, I’ll be looking for a few suitable case studies too 👀

If you’re new here, welcome 🤍
I’m Sam. I’m 41 (42 this month 🎂🎁) a mum of two, skincare specialist, home educator, and the face behind Sam Jane Skin Clinic
I’ve worked in the beauty industry for almost 22 years, but skin has been my main focus for the last 5 years.
In my mid to late 30s, deep in the trenches of motherhood, I suddenly looked in the mirror and felt like my skin had aged overnight.
I’d always assumed that a bit of Botox and filler would be enough, but I realised there was a much bigger piece of the puzzle I was missing.
That’s when I started taking skincare seriously.
I learned how much difference consistency makes. I discovered the importance of using the right products for your skin rather than just grabbing whatever the latest “it” product was and I saw first-hand what collagen stimulation, skin health and a long-term approach could achieve.
And that changed everything for me and my business
These days, I’m passionate about helping women understand their skin rather than simply selling them products or treatments. Because when you understand what’s happening beneath the surface, you can make decisions that actually move your skin forward.
My approach is all about healthy skin first. Supporting the skin barrier, reducing inflammation, stimulating collagen and creating results that look natural, healthy and completely like you.
Most of my clients are women in their late 30s, 40s and beyond who want to age well without looking overdone.
When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me home educating my children, living almost entirely on coffee, lifting weights in the gym to stay sane, or embracing my growing collection of old-lady hobbies in the garden. Give me roses, flowers and a quiet afternoon outside and I’m happy.
I’m so glad you’re here.
Whether you’ve been following for years or you’ve only just found me, thank you for being part of my little corner of the internet 💛

Life definitely looks a little different to how I imagined right now.
But i’m learning to embrace a slower pace, even when every part of me wants to be doing more, creating more and growing faster.
That doesn’t mean I’ve stopped dreaming though. If you know me, you’ll know I’m never usually too far away from a new idea. I’m just learning that not every idea needs to be acted on at 100 miles an hour.
For now, I’m focusing on what matters most right now
