I've been following Dr Ben Coyle for some time now, and he is one of the most respected voices when it comes to patient safety and standards within the aesthetics industry. His recent comments about the lack of regulation surrounding injectable treatments are something every client should be aware of.

At our business, we have one Permanent Makeup (PMU) artist working across our two locations in Caversham Heights and Reading town centre. Our treatment rooms have been inspected by the local council, and the relevant certificates are displayed for clients to view. This helps ensure standards are being met and gives clients confidence in the environment they are being treated in.

It made me wonder: if you receive PMU treatments within Reading Borough Council, have you ever asked to see your practitioner's council registration certificate?

Many clients don't realise that practitioners operating legally within the borough should have the appropriate registration and certification available to view. Yet very few people ever ask.

What concerns me is that injectable treatments are not always subject to the same level of oversight. Many people assume checks are in place, but often never ask to see qualifications, training certificates, insurance documents, or evidence of competence before treatment.

Before booking any aesthetic treatment, consider asking:

✔ Are you qualified to perform this treatment?

✔ Can I see your certificates and training records?

✔ Are you insured?

✔ Are you working from a professional and compliant treatment environment?

✔ If applicable, are you registered with the local council?

These are not awkward questions—they are important questions.

Transparency builds trust, and every client has the right to understand the qualifications, standards, and safeguards behind the treatments they choose.
