CONTROVERSIAL OPINION 🚨 I actually think we’re slowly killing our own industry More and more hairdressers are going out on their own. Freelance, home salons, working for themselves… and I get it. There are definitely benefits to it But I don’t think people are looking at what this means long term Salons are dying. More are closing and honestly, if we keep going the way we are, I think there will eventually only be a handful of actual employing salons left And then what? Salons are where teams are built. Where apprentices are employed. Where young hairdressers learn from senior hairdressers every single day. It’s where the next generation of our industry comes from And on top of all of that, our industry is ridiculously unregulated Someone can literally have no hairdressing qualification and open a hair business or salon How the f**k does that make sense 😂 We’re a TRADE. You should have to be qualified. There should be regulations and actual standards around who can open and operate a hairdressing business. End of story I’ve worked my ass off in this industry for a long time and I genuinely worry about where it’s heading Because yes, working for yourself might be great for the individual But an industry made up of everyone working individually isn’t an industry with a future We need employing salons We need apprenticeships We need qualified hairdressers We need regulation Otherwise we need to stop acting surprised when salons keep disappearing Hairdressing needs to change before there’s barely an industry left to save #HairdressingIndustry #AustralianHairdresser #SalonOwner #HairdressingAustralia #HairdressingEducation
