And I really needed this visual to help me explain what I’ve been trying to say to prom girls the last 4 years.

Makeup, hair, jewellery, accessories, THE DRESS… they’re all pieces of the prom puzzle. Neither one is more important, but if one is missing, the final look somehow isn’t complete.

In my 15 years experience of being a professional makeup artist, I’ve covered pretty much every type of glam you can think of, and I know what products to use, how to use them and how to make them work on different skin, eye shapes, photograph beautifully, last all day and night and most importantly, still feel like the individual but the best version of themselves.

I find it truly heartbreaking that as a society we have become more comfortable with digital enhancement, than real life enhancement. People don’t think twice about FaceTuning apps, adding a filter that smoothes their skin, changes eye and face shape, alters body proportions and looking like a different person entirely - yet the thought of professionally enhancing your natural face with makeup is just “too much, no thanks”

I do not edit my work, I personally do not use or believe in filters, and find it so important in this day and age to drum it into the younger generation that nobody is perfect, skin has pores, we all have floors, everybody is different. Makeup can certainly help to disguise any imperfections, and wonderfully enhance your natural features. The makeup you see from me is exactly what it looked like when they left my chair.

I will choose makeup over any filters Every. Single. Time.
