Framework Sports Massage
I'm Emily, I am a freelance Sports Massage Therapist working on a mobile basis throughout Sheffield.
We are going to be talking more about chronic!
I am going to push myself to do this.
If you ever feel I am missing the mark I’ll trust you to call me out (if you want to)
Thank you for being here.
An experience that someone is having is not the same as describing the neurobiology that may or may not be happening as part of that experience.
People with lived experience are continuously saying that the “nervous system” narrative is such an over simplification. Pain science shows us that it’s a vast oversimplification.
Yet it’s still utilised so flippantly whilst I’m not sure that a lot of people even really understand what they are saying when they use the narrative!
Chronic pain is not a dysfunctional nervous system. It’s a hugely complex experience that people living within us need support from people that understand it. Not some throwaway narrative that doesn’t mean anything.
We have to stop referring to chronic pain as a “dis regulated nervous system”
1. No systems in the body act in isolation ever.
2. Someone is not a nervous system, they are a whole person.
3. Pain is not a nervous system experience, it’s a whole person experience.
4. All of these things can be lovely to add into someone’s care but what if they don’t work, where do you go?
5. Chronic pain support requires far more than “calming approaches”
6. Pain is always real, you are not doing anything wrong and I will always believe you!
The small changes are intentional.
We don’t just throw loads at the wall and see what sticks with chronic pain (or any pain for that matter)
Together we figure of where we are and where we want to go. You always drive the plan. I just facilitate it.
If you would like to work with me and you are living with chronic pain just head to the link in my bio to book a free consultation call or pop me a message over.

If the heat is too much for you we can rearrange your appointment!
There are lots of factors to consider in how we experience heat. Some people’s circumstances give us more to consider.
Massage will always be waiting for you when it cools down a little
Let’s talk about what I actually do!
I am a massage therapist, I massage people but I also support people living with pain!
If you have been thinking about working with me you can book yourself in at www.frameworksportsmassage.com
No it’s not a new massage technique, it’s me trying not to sneeze on you!
Thoughts and prayers to all hay fever stricken massage therapists who will inevitably rub massage lotion into their eyes!
If you are a hayfever sufferer and struggling to lie face down on the table due to congestion please just say. There are plenty of ways we can position you for that not to be an issue. You don’t need to suffer through it!

I love my job. I say this all the time but there are still parts that frustrate me.
I hate that I am working with people who are frightened of massage because of previous experiences.
I hate that someone new booked in and added onto the booking “please don’t hurt me”
I hate that someone asked me whether it was normal to have horrendous bruising after massage.
Massage is supposed to be supportive, caring, relaxing, comforting, not a horrific endurance test.
