Daisy and I are asking for some help.
Our friend is having to suddenly move home with her five year old son due to terrible circumstances.
They literally have nothing except a mattress and their clothes.
Does anyone out there want to help with anything to donate ?
Furniture / pots and pans / storage containers ….. I mean she literally needs everything.
All donations greatly appreciated no matter how small.
Xx 😘

We all know how to wash our hair… or do we? It’s a ritual we’ve been doing our whole lives, an essential part of our self-care routine. But are we missing some vital steps that could be the answer to achieving salon-worthy hair every day?
So let’s collate the array of information out there on how to properly wash your hair. Stick around to learn how to make hair wash day work for you and have a browse of some of our favourite haircare heroes.
How often should you wash your hair?
It’s the question that everybody’s got a different answer to. Which makes sense as there’s no one-size-fits-all here. And yes, the idea that less frequent washing will train your scalp to be less greasy is a myth. How often you should wash your hair depends on your hair type, oiliness and lifestyle.
The texture of your stands can affect how many oil glands you have, as well as how much sebum they’re able to soak up. Finer hair has more oil glands, so strands can feel greasy faster, whereas thicker hair is more able to absorb that oiliness, which can lead to dryness.
Here’s our rough breakdown of how often you should be shampooing different hair types:
Fine hair – every one to two days
Medium hair – every two to four days
Thick hair – once a week
These guidelines can also be affected by your lifestyle. If you live somewhere with high pollution or pollen, or regularly get sweaty while working out at the gym, cleaning or gardening, you may want to treat your tresses more often.
How to wash hair properly
Your hair wash day can be as simple as one, two, three. Let’s find out how to shampoo hair effectively…
Step 1 – The pre-shampoo prep
Before hopping in the shower, brush your hair to untangle any knots and loosen the dirt you’re about to wash away.
Then, set your water temperature to lukewarm. As lovely as a lava-hot shower feels, it can irritate the scalp and strip it of its protective barrier.
Step 2 – Time to scrub-a-dub-dub
The rumours are true, double cleansing is the way to go. Your first wash will remove dirt, pollution and any product left in your hair, while the second wash will ensure a thorough clean – similar to double cleansing your skin.
Gently massage a hazelnut-sized blob of shampoo into your roots, avoiding too much pressure or using your nails. Pay extra attention to the hairline, backs of the ears and nape of the neck, which can be overlooked.
And don’t forget the ends! Stroke the shampoo down the length of your hair, perhaps in sections if you have curly, coily or kinky hair to help avoid tangles. Then, rinse with lukewarm water until your hair feels squeaky clean and repeat.
Step 3 – Turn up the (h)air conditioning
Bring some moisture back into your fresh hair with conditioner, but never at the roots. Apply to your mid-lengths and ends to keep hair feeling smooth and strong. Aim for a 5p coin-sized blob for short hair, a 10p coin-sized blob for shoulder-length hair or more for longer or thicker hair.
For your final rinse, switch to cool water to seal your cuticle and leave your hair with that salon shine. Then, wrap it up in a microfibre towel to help avoid frizz and absorb more moisture quicker.
Common hair-washing mistakes
Watch out for these easy-to-make mistakes we’ve all been guilty of…
Not wetting hair for long enough
Stand under the water for a minute or two while sectioning your hair out so that it’s completely soaking and ready for a deep clean.
Not mixing shampoo with water
Also known as emulsifying, adding water to your shampoo can help to maximise its spreadability and create a better lather.
Applying conditioner to soaking hair
Gently squeeze excess water from the mid-lengths and ends of your hair so it can receive all of your conditioner’s goodness.
Brushing wet hair
Use a wide-tooth comb to detangle wet hair (when it’s more prone to breakage) and begin combing through the ends first.
Choosing the right products for your hair type
If you’re not sure which haircare products are meant for your hair, have a look for these key words while browsing the shelves:
Fine or oily hair – volumising, strengthening, balancing, clarifying
Thick or dry hair – hydrating, smoothing, nourishing, replenishing
Damaged or coloured hair – strengthening, fortifying, repairing
