A United Stand for the Future of Hairdressing ✂️myself and @hiltonsophia stood side by side doing what we love. Today was a powerful and beautiful moment as salon owners, hairdressers, and freelancers—both employed and independent—stood together in Parliament Square in peaceful protest. We came with one simple request: fair support for our industry and future generations. We’re calling for a fair VAT reduction to 10%, the same as in Ireland, to recognize that our industry is labour-based—we don’t sell goods, we provide a service that helps people feel good. The rising costs, especially apprentice wages soaring to nearly £1,500 a month, are making it impossible for salons to train and grow talent like we always have. Many salons can no longer afford to invest in education, something that has been the heart of our industry for generations. We want to support, teach, and grow—but without help, we’re forced to cut back. Will they help us? They say they will, but so far, it feels like they just keep on taking. No matter what, we will find a way—because that’s what we do. But today, seeing the industry come together in solidarity was a reminder of the power we have when we stand as one.
