Four years ago, I launched the campaign. Looking back now, I’m happy to see how far it’s come.

Over the past four years, I’ve delivered talks and demonstrations, developed a course, written magazine articles and reports, had MP engagement, spoken on BBC Radio, and continued to champion massage and the industry as a whole and the positive impact it can have on our clients’ mental health.

While this work is seen through my professional experience, it’s driven more so by my personal journey. Many of you know that I live with significant mental health challenges, and that experience shapes everything I do. I started this campaign because I wanted to use my own experiences to help others and to raise awareness of the difference our profession can make.

Without question, the most rewarding part has been meeting so many incredible therapists along the way. Your passion and dedication continue to inspire me.

The work doesn’t stop here. I’ll keep advocating for greater recognition of massage, promoting the evidence and value of our profession, and ensuring our industry receives the respect it deserves.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign over the past four years, and especially to those who have given me a platform to speak, write, teach, and share this message. Your trust and support have helped the campaign reach far more people than I ever could have alone.

Thank you and for giving me the stage at Spa Life this year. It was so great to connect with new faces and see industry friends again.

The talk went well, and it was really interesting to share the statistics from the survey I recently sent out. I’m currently in the process of writing a full report on the results, so keep an eye out for more information on that!

Industry professionals, I need a moment of your time!

We spend our days supporting the wellbeing of others… but how often do we talk about the wellbeing of those providing the care?

As I prepare for my talk at I’m gathering insights through a survey from therapists, trainers, educators, spa leaders and wellness practitioners to better understand the realities of working in our industry today.

💭 What are the biggest challenges you’re facing?
💭 What support do you need?
💭 How can we better care for those who care for others?

The survey is completely anonymous and takes just 2–3 minutes to complete, I would be so grateful for your time and thoughts.

Your voice will help shape an important conversation around mental, emotional and professional wellbeing within the wellness industry.

sent me this brill little device to try in my massage treatments, the Mini Scraper

I’ve only been using it for a short time, but first impressions are really positive.

I think it’s particularly effective on smaller muscle group, especially the shoulders, neck, and calves. I have also used it on the feet before reflexology sessions, which has been a nice addition.

I especially like is how portable it is and how easily it integrates into my massage treatments.

I’ll report back in a couple of weeks with a full follow-up on how it performs in sessions.

As we kick off Mental Health Awareness Week, I wanted to take a moment to highlight this important difference with the language we use around Mental Health and Mental Illness.

Whether you’re struggling with your Mental Health, or with a Mental Illness…you deserve the support you need.

Take action this week and reach out to someone, because we all need help and support when we’re struggling.

Places you can reach out to for support…

You may have seen on .uk - I’ve published my first open letter. I’m urging policy makers and Social prescribers to recognise Massage Therapy as a treatment for Mental Health conditions.

This letter has the endorsement of Dr Joanne Smith, GP and Helen Farrell BA (Hons) Psychotherapist.

I’ve spent nearly 4 years running my campaign, pushing to help people understand Mental Health conditions from a physical perspective. I’m also wanting to get the recognition we as an industry deserve for the impact our work can have on people struggling with their Mental Health. We can all have such a positive impact, and it’s something I will always push.

Beyond Talk; The Case for Massage Therapy in Mental Health Policy

The letter outlines how symptoms such as chronic muscle tension, sleep disruption, fatigue, nervous system dysregulation and pain are often left untreated within current conventional care models, and it highlights with research showing that massage therapy can:

* Lower cortisol levels (the body’s primary stress hormone)
* Increase serotonin and dopamine linked to mood regulation
* Activate the parasympathetic nervous system
* Improve sleep quality and reduce physical tension

The letter also calls for

- Official recognition of massage therapy within social prescribing
- Funding for pilot programmes integrating therapists into primary care
- Further research into cost-effectiveness
- Inclusion of massage in return-to-work support strategies

I’ve also highlighted an existing complementary therapy pilot in Kensington and Chelsea as an example of how massage can support mental health recovery, improve confidence and reduce reliance on GP services.

Have an amazing day
