This lovely client originally came to me wanting a mole removed for cosmetic reasons. After assessment, I identified concerning features, declined treatment, and advised that I carry out a mole screening assessment first to ensure it was safe to treat.

The screening report came back as an urgent referral, and the lesion was subsequently removed and biopsied by the NHS.

⚠️ Why Mole Screening Matters ⚠️

A client recently contacted me wanting a mole removed for cosmetic reasons.

After taking a closer look, I identified concerning features, declined treatment, and advised that I screen the lesion first to ensure it was safe to treat.

The screening report came back as an urgent referral.

The client was subsequently referred on the urgent pathway, underwent surgical excision and biopsy in hospital, and later thanked me for encouraging her to have it screened before treatment.

This is exactly why screening is such an important part of my practice. Not every lesion is suitable for cosmetic treatment, and knowing when not to treat can be just as important as knowing how to treat.

These photographs show the original lesion and the subsequent surgical removal. Shared with the client’s permission, they serve as a powerful reminder that suspicious skin lesions should never be ignored.
