Hello friends, recently I have been through a very heart breaking experience that has not only upset me deeply through the destruction of my handmade products but has also cost me a quarter of my monthly profits and although there is nothing I can do about it. Now I want to make sure none of you suffer like me. Last week I sent out 4 wholesale orders of similar products with DHL and unfortunately one of them was severely mishandled and dropped extensively to the point were all the decorative toppers dislodged with the extreme force. There was a display bell jar which shattered but luckily the glass on the candles did not break because each candle is packaged in a strong cardboard tube. Even though I paid extra to have the full package insured DHL will not pay me back the postage or for the value of the damaged package because there is a small caveat that if you send any 'breakable items' the insurance is null and it is at your own risk. This caveat includes: glass, china, ceramics, pottery, stoneware, fossils, works of art and items which are made from, or consist of rock (whether igneous, metamorphic, sedimentary or otherwise). These caveats would null most small business products that would probably contain one of these materials. Even though the glass would be the only defined 'breakable' item on this list for my candles and it did not break but the wax did, it does not matter to them. They are a multi million pound company who would not blink twice about breaking small business products and keeping their money because they have the small print to do so. This incident has shown to me that small business do not matter to them. If your products contain any of these 'breakable items' please do not post with them and check to make sure your postal service wont fail to protect you and your products through the use of fine print like DHL did to me..... Please share this with any other small business that you feel may be affected by this.
