Great weekend in London attending the BIAE Transgender course. The training was superb, and it's always a pleasure to meet old colleagues and new.

The Government are considering proposals to deal with malpractice issues ('botched treatments') caused by unqualified aesthetics practitioners. Unfortunately, it appears that their underlying motives are to restrict businesses who have been operating safely and successfully for years in this field. My colleagues and I are deeply concerned that the higher qualifications (Levels 7 and 8) that may become necessary to provide treatments are being denied to anyone without medical training (meaning only Doctors, Nurses, Dentists etc can achieve these qualifications). Aesthetics is a completely different field to medicine, and medics need to complete the same training as us to carry out procedures. There are currently a number of Doctors practising aesthetics who have been prosecuted, suspended or even struck off the medical register; how is that allowed, especially as some have now been accused of aesthetic maltreatment by clients?
There is a survey available to all on the Government website, inviting your views on some of the proposals. Please go and make your opinions heard.
