Cancer patients at Queen Elizabeth Hospital(QEH) are now benefiting from a new Hilotherm cooling machine, helping reduce pain, numbness and nerve damage caused by chemotherapy.
Garry, diagnosed with bowel cancer in August 2025, said: “I came to QEH specifically for this machine after researching ways to manage chemotherapy side effects. It’s really helped with the pain and numbness, and as a saxophone player in a band, it means I can start playing again, which is fantastic.”
Sarah Phillips, Chemotherapy Day Unit Manager, added: “We’ve already had really positive feedback from our patients. This technology significantly enhances the patient experience and is a great example of how we can make our patients’ cancer journeys more comfortable and better tolerated.”
