Some people feel that when they smile they show too much of their gums, or that their gums are simply too prominent when they smile – this is often referred to as a ‘gummy smile’. Gummy Smile is a phenomenon where the upper lip elevates too far above the upper teeth, exposing the gum and producing an unattractive smile. One of the causes is a hyperactive muscle activity which elevates the upper lip. Occasionally, the gummy smile is also aggravated by a thin upper lip that further contributes to the problem by exposing the upper gum even further. Fortunately, gummy smile can be simply and effectively corrected with Botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox) injections to reduce the activity of the muscles that elevate the upper lip.

Some people don’t realise that unlike some other treatments botulinum toxin takes time to show its results.
We always have our new clients coming in for a (free) review during week 3 post treatment. This guarantees the results are at their peak and we can examine how their muscles have reacted to the toxin, and wether they need any top up. It’s also at this time that any asymmetry is corrected. Regular clients usually don’t need to come in for a review given that we have already done this study on how they react to the treatment and dosages in the past. But we keep in touch with them remotely post treatments and bring them in if needed.

By carefully injecting dermal filler above and below the ‘bump’ on the nose, we can very easily make the most ‘hooked’ of noses look completely straight. Additionally, by applying filler around the tip of the nose, we can make it look thinner and more refined, and can further lift the tip of the nose by injecting Botox into the depressor nasalis, the muscle which continuously pulls the nose down.

Hi everyone 👋
As some of you probably already know we have opened a new aesthetic clinic in Kings Hill that will, in the first phase, focus on injectable treatments (specifically dermal fillers and anti wrinkle treatments). Before going into the specifics it’s best I introduce myself. My name is Jorge and I am the clinical director and main practitioner. I am originally from Porto, Portugal (hence, “PortoClinic”) and I have an extensive medical background with 15 years of experience. I have a Master of Science (MSc) in Nursing, post graduation in Anaesthetics and I’m specialised in the operating room. After many years of working in operating theatres, I have gone and taken a post graduation in medical education which allowed me to teach new medical practitioners the likes of aseptic techniques and how to scrub and assist surgery with a focus on anatomy. After leaving the NHS I’ve joined a big world wide medical company and have been working as a medical sales consultant, as well as leading their orthopaedic education for the last 2 years.
In my spare time, which seems to be rare these days, I do lots of radical sports but I also really love to draw portraits. I’ve always been in love with facial features and have had a curious eye and talent to draw them with precision.
It was the combination of these two things - medical background and the love for facial proportions that has led me here today.
I am fully certified under UK regulations to perform injectable treatments. And there is nothing that will give me more pleasure than to see you smile when you look at yourself in the mirror after visiting our clinic.
