A lot of my clients recently are telling me they are having little boys. Along with a fab podcast I was listening to the other day (about a year when there was an unexplained higher proportion of boys born than ever before in the 20th Century - https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001qw4s), I went to have a look at whether it really is a 50:50 chance of either s*x.
Looking at the national statistics (ONS), I discovered that certainly in the last 40 years, the number of boys born in any given year is always greater than the number of baby girls born. This surprised me as it is widely accepted that female neonates have higher survival rates than their male equivalents (https://www.nature.com/articles/pr201150).
Even so, even the year where the gap was the narrowest, in 2001, 14,600 more boys were born that year than girls! Madness!
It's March! Again. I am really looking forward to Spring springing this month.
The start of March is always a tough week for me as we lost our little boy five years ago on March 8th, and I always find myself hibernating around his birthday.
I close down my work diary as I'm not able to give you the best support during this week.
So if you would like a massage or have a voucher you'd like to use, please get in touch. I am here, I'm just having a pause for a few days. 🙏

Spring has sprung! Thank the Lord. Its time to fill your house with beautiful flowers (may I suggest Smith and Munson for tulip and ranunculus lovers out there! (They deliver!!)), walk out among the crocus, snowdrops, and daffodils, and just be excited that Summer is on the way. Finally.
Whatever your position on the journey of motherhood (and believe me, there are so many more than just ante or postnatal), a walk outside now the weather is brighter can do so much for your heart and your head.
My work is really interesting because it takes me into the happiest households in the land as well as the most heartbroken too.
If you know someone who has just had a baby or has lost a baby, or who is tenaciously trying to start their family, why not gift them some tulips or something to say you are thinking of them. You could even gift them a massage instead.
Let that special someone know that you are there for them whatever life is throwing their way at the moment.

Dear Clients, I'm so so sorry I've had to cancel so many appointments over the last week. We've been really unwell unfortunately. We all self isolated over the weekend so as not to spread these nasty germs, despite negative PCR tests. Hoping the next few days brings improvements. Fingers crossed.

Definitely going to be tuning in to this… Happy Saturday People. I am currently riddled with RSV but at least it’s not COVID. X

What a day! During Home Schooling (Hell) in January and February, I dreamed of this day - when I could get my highlights done again! 💃
Some of my clients ask me if highlights and hair dye are safe during pregnancy and my answer is always yes.
Tommy’s state that although “some studies have found that very high doses of the chemicals in hair dye may cause harm, you are exposed to very low amounts of chemicals when colouring your hair”.
Tommy’s also state that “the colours in permanent and semi-permanent hair dyes are not highly toxic”.
“You could also try having your hair highlighted by a hairdresser. Using this technique means that the chemicals are only absorbed by your hair, not your scalp or bloodstream.”

I had such a wonderful client this evening. Normally my clients chat to me, ask me questions etc. This evening though my client didn’t chat and was in a really chilled, fairly meditative state. My breathing slowed to match hers and as a result, my movements slowed too. This only served to relax my client even more. It was the best treatment! Evening appointments rock!
Hey Guys, tonight I am back to work for the first time since Lockdown. Back working but with a few changes:
Face Masks will sadly be the new norm during the treatment for both me and my client.
I will require access to a hand basin and a fresh hand towel.
I will need to have a window open in the room where the treatment takes place. This is usually the bedroom in most antenatal appointments.
Hopefully these changes won't hugely or negatively impact the treatment. It is perhaps now more important than ever to nourish the Mother to Be, to rebalance, to be still, to replenish stocks and promote good mental wellbeing.
I look forward to seeing many more clients over the summer. Hopefully with these changes being made in every treatment room across the UK, we can avoid another lockdown and more importantly save lives. X
