Having been in the beauty industry for many many years now, it’s safe to say I’ve had my fair share of dealings.

From interaction with clients, to working with different brands and working in different salons/spas.

Owning my own salon was an eye opener, the pressure from the big well known brands you’re faced with JUST TO STOCK them.
I get it to a degree but one thing that still lives rent free in my head is one Christmas, being told I would have to spend an obscene amount of money just so I could have the Christmas stock and a decent selection of it, otherwise I would have to wait until all the big high street stores had first dibs of stock and I could get what remained (which was most likely nothing)

As it was,that was just the festive collections not to mention the rest of the stock that I would have to shell out for and hope and pray it would sell.
(Non opened products with a shelf life up to 3 years 👀 so what are we really putting on our skin?)

Now I work with a skincare that is SO POLAR opposite, they actually discourage us from “holding stock”

1. Because they don’t want us to be out of pocket
2. The products are so fresh, they don’t contain any nasties that give them that extra longevity 👀

I would say I’ve sold more skincare in the last 5.5 years than I had the 17 years prior with bigger “known brands”
In fact I KNOW I have.

I’m sharing this because, I’ll be honest, I put my hands up and say like many, I dismissed the style “direct selling” when I had the salon.

Truth be told it’s really the same but without the pressure or corporate marketing.
I bought in the brand, we got a portion of the sales, my team made a commission on the sales they did.

Direct selling businesses get a bad rep but in the beauty industry we’re all doing the same in salon it’s just labelled different.

Instead of being robbed and just being “another salon representing a brand”

I’m appreciated, I’m rewarded and above ALL of that I have met an incredible bunch of inspirational and empowering women along the way.

My lovely client had old faded PMU from another brow tech.

She wanted a little more volume and shape.

I think for this first session we’ve achieved a great finish, already looking forward to her follow up appt in 8 weeks time ✨
