Hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone is the result of ultra violet light, hormones or skin trauma; leading to darkened patches on the skin. The melanocyte cells which are responsible for giving our skin its colour can become over stimulated and damaged leading to them producing more pigment than is needed and the skin discolouration that presents on the surface.

Treating hyperpigmentation can be challenging but the key is keeping to a consistent regime to ensure noticeable and ongoing results.

SPF of at least 25 should be applied to the skin in all hours of daylight, even on dull days. This will defend against UV - one of the main catalysts for pigmentation production and limit the skin discolouration developing further.

Lactic Acid, a resurfacing ingredient, sloughs away surface skin cells which give uneven skin a darker appearance. It helps to reveal new fresh skin for a more brightened complexion. It also works to inhibit the tyrosinase enzyme which is needed for the melanocyte cells to over produce pigment.

Vitamin C assists with skin brightening and radiance and acts as a tyrosinase enzyme inhibitor.

Diacetyl Boldine, derived from the Chilean Boldo tree, has pigmentation catalyst inhibiting properties and the ability to illuminate and brighten skin tone.
