Hair by Helen
Hi there i am a local freelance hairdresser with 30 years of experience in hairdressing.
Did you know your hair is one of the first places your body shows signs of stress? 🧠✂️
When we go through stressful periods in life, our bodies shift their energy toward survival — and hair growth becomes a low priority. Here’s what’s actually happening beneath the surface:
🔬 The Science:
Stress pushes hair follicles into a resting phase called telogen effluvium meaning your hair stops growing and starts shedding. The frustrating part? It usually shows up 2–3 months after the stressful event, so by the time you notice the loss, you’ve almost forgotten what triggered it.
😟 What stress does to your hair:
➡️ Increased shedding & thinning
➡️ Slower growth
➡️ Dryness & breakage (cortisol disrupting oil production)
➡️ Scalp issues like dandruff or irritation
➡️ In some cases, patchy loss (alopecia areata)
💆🏽♀️ My reality right now:
I’ll be honest and life has been a lot lately. And knowing that my hair is probably going to feel the impact of these past few months in the weeks to come is a reminder that stress isn’t just mental. It’s physical. It shows up on your skin, your sleep, your gut… and yes, your hair.
So if my adhd brain allows I’m going to work on my recovery. Scalp massages, nourishing oils, more water, more rest, and time in the gym when i feel string enough and giving myself some self are during the regrowth phase. 🌱
Your hair will grow back. But first — take care of yourself.

Are you noticing your parting looking wider than it used to? 👀
This can be an early sign of FPHL (Female Pattern Hair Loss) caused by hair miniaturisation.
🧬 What’s happening?
Hair follicles gradually produce finer, weaker hairs instead of thick terminal hairs. Over time, density reduces—especially along the parting and crown—making the scalp more visible.
⚠️ This doesn’t happen overnight, and that’s actually the good news.
The earlier miniaturisation is identified, the better the chance of slowing, managing, and supporting regrowth 🌱
If your ponytail feels thinner, styling feels harder, or your parting just won’t sit the same anymore—your hair is trying to tell you something.
✨ Healthy hair starts at the scalp.
✨ Answers come from understanding why, not just covering it up.

🚫 Why heavy oils may be doing more harm than good for your scalp
Heavy oils are often praised in hair care, but when applied to the scalp, they can actually work against healthy hair growth.
🔍 Here’s why:
• Heavy oils can block hair follicles, preventing oxygen and nutrients from reaching the root
• This blockage can slow down hair growth
• Oil buildup attracts dirt → leading to itching, redness & inflammation
• An irritated scalp can cause breakage and shedding
• Inflammation = an unhealthy environment for hair to thrive
✨ So what’s better?
💧 Lightweight scalp serums
✔️ Absorb easily
✔️ Don’t clog follicles
✔️ Reduce irritation & inflammation
✔️ Support a healthy scalp microbiome
✔️ Create the perfect environment for hair growth
Healthy hair starts at the scalp 🌱
Feed it what it actually needs — not what weighs it down and causes clogged scalps.

✨ Hair Growth Journey ✨
I am using the HairMax LLLT handheld lamp on my husband’s androgenetic alopecia (male pattern hair loss) to help stimulate hair follicles and support healthier growth 🌱
HairMax uses low-level laser therapy to increase blood flow and encourage follicles that have become miniaturised over time. Consistency is key — this is about long-term scalp health, not quick fixes.
I am excited to share my husbands progress as we go ✨
Healthy scalp = better hair 💬
